New Abus keyway

I wasn't impressed very much when I saw it on a picture, but after picking it I have to admit that it's much more difficult now.
The new keyway is very narrow and restrictive.

Thats a pretty mean looking keyway. Reminds me of my BEST cylinders.

the first ward crosses the whole width of the vertical cut, this would interfer with a wide shaft pick. Ive seen worse, keyways that are like W's vertical, got skunked trying to pick one for a friend once, it was on a kryptonite cable lock. of course I was using common picks, I think for that lock if I had it myself, I'd design a thin rounded shaft pick, probably a hook or half diamond with the lower edge removed,

Nice that Abus tries to make the 45 more secure but i think thats just a fake.
Of course this keyway is more "secure" but nothing new.
Abus has got a very nice series called 75 which is a dimple lock. That keway can't be much more expensive but they are selling it fore doubble the money.
I think they could do much better.

I have an Abus barrel for a nightlatch, and the keyway is near impossible, I also have one in my halldoor

It's the nastiest keyway I've seen so far, not been able to pick it yet!

After spending some time with it, I recommend using a dental hook on the bottom part of the keyway (european view). Use the front part of the dental hook. Both locks I own went open in seconds.

Anyone here got any tips on picking the italian 'viro' locks, these are just difficult, is it tight machineing tolerances? or are there other tricks in there? the springs seem a bit stiff. but really its just a pin tumbler lock.

I'm sort of glad someone else is having the same trouble I was. Viro locks have long spools in all chambers. And, they are very accurately machined. Just plain simple but well made locks.

After picking, the plug turns but the cam doesn't! :s

For picking, I face issues lick you 'bout hard spring an so on...I decided to go old school: find the binding pin then take a very thick an strong rake and push the pin as hard as possible...it's hard but the botom pin will finally pass through shear line...hope it helps.

Well, i picked those with paperclips, these were my 2nd locks...

This keyway isn't bad at all. The Theres another abus keyway they used but evva designed, all of them are easy, jsut use a comb pick
