will a Ford Tibbe pick work on a 10 disk Chubb Ava Lock

will a Ford Tibbe pick work on a 10 disk Chubb Ava Lock

Postby Jlo » 22 Apr 2006 4:14

Hi,

Just wondering how different a 10 disk chubb ava lock is to a Ford Tibbe lock? I beleive the ford locks have 6 disks, Jaguar 8 disks but the modern keys have a 'neater profile' over the Chubb AVA key so I am guessing the locks will differ?

Anyone know if the Ford Tibbe pick works on the Chubb Ava 10 disk lock?

Cheers

Which one are you referring to? the Falle decoder, or the Souber Tibbe pick?

I am thinking of of the Souber Tibbe pick or similar for Ford Tibbe locks.

Cheers

the souber tool is a matter of technique, and is excellent for its purpose once mastered. its in fact quicker and easier than the sf tool on ignitions, the safeventures is better on doors.

Got to agree with Pinky on this - the Souber tool is great once mastered. I've used it frequently on door, boot and ignitions. Down to technique and understanding the lock.

Well you do certainly get more luck with it once you throw the instructions away and think what your doing along with the knowledge of the lock and up until recently was what i used on deadlocked Fords but when i got the sv tool i havent touched it since and other than removing one i wouldnt use either on an ignition.

Thanks for your replys.

So just to clarify how different is the Forde Tibbe lock to the Chubb 10 disk AVa lock found on some BS rim locks and Padlocks?

Cheers

Similar, they both use a disc mechanism, as does Abloy, Abus, and a few Mickey-Mouse manufacturers.

Check out the latest Abloy article by Han Fey for some info regarding the AVA system. :)

Ford Tibbe

Ford Tibbe is very similar to Chubb Ava but with fewer sliders.
Main point is that Tibbe can use a reversible key whereas Ava can't.

I have a write up of it in my book, but it isn't published yet :(

the tool i was shown for the ava, was a small 2 in 1 pick design, it worked in the hands of its maker, and with practice i guess would be reliable in the right hands.

On Han Fey's whitepaper it says AVA is a wafer lock :?
Are you speaking of a disc lock or wafer lock?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm just a bit confused
