Old padlocks , how to lockpick

Postby Sindbadd » 7 May 2006 9:33

Hello

I have two old padlocks in my country house , and i was wondering how can I open them. They seem to be pretty old and very simple , but i wonder what kind of lockpicks would i need to open them. These are the links to photos of those padlocks :

Yes they are old lever padlocks.

Are they YOUR locks?

Have a read of illusions lever picking guide that is stickied in the locks section, have a play with some homemade wires first they wont be too hard to pick once you realise whats going on in there, Illusions guide.

I have posted some pics of a lock that will be simular inside have a look Here

look for keys

Postby raimundo » 7 May 2006 11:07

you should look for keys, perhaps on a nail behind a cupboard front, or look in antique stores or old locksmith shops, it may be easy to find a key that works, since such old locks were not so difficult nor so many key varients, also, you might want to look for a keyblank at an old locksmiths, this can be used to make a key, there can be wards inside the lock, these are flat pieces of metal that do not move, and some levers willbe in front of these wards, some will be behind them, as the ward plate can be installed inside the lever pack. A bit of experimenting with impressioning techniques, carbonizing the blank, wax dipping the bland or plasticine. if you have more than one blank, say for a pack of three levers, you can make tools for each lever and feel it out, then combine the information on one key. pullin on the shackle of a hinged swinging shackle will not help, it tends to lock it harder.

Hmm might be hard to pick

Those locks look VERY rusty to me. I would hit them with a LOT of lube and then just try to feel if the levers even move. The one looks like it could even be rusted shut.

Old padlocks

In this instant, i think the main priority would being to be trying to free the levers up ,by what ever means. Then you can attack the lock by any of the ways suggested above.
