Can anyone help me with the dimensions for a 2-in-1 pick.
I have seen a few photo's of these tools but am not sure about the sizes.
I have some 4mm steel bar and some 3/16" brass tube and the turners
should be no problem cut from steel bar, It's the length from the end of the tool to the first tang and how long this is, and the same with the lever lifting tang.
Oh and do I have to make a LH and a RH or will one do??

There isnt really any set length as long as it fits the lock.Ive filed down several now to fit various locks and you soon end up with a collection of different sized 2 in 1's.The rb ones normally are a bit longer than you need to allow for custom fitting to locks etc.

You have to fill it to fit the lock you want to use it on...

Nice. Do you care to say what the material was, and the technique for joining the sideways pieces on. Silver soldering?

The material is Stainless Steel, it took me about as long to find some suitable sizes in small lengths as it did to make it.
Yeah the legs are silver soldered on, made possible by shrubs guide, Thanks for that by the way shrub

Lukekjackson,
Thank you mate that was what I was after, nice work. I am hoping to do something similar. I could do with a bit more on the dimentions side though.

I know what you mean about getting the info you require, but to be fair to everyone, I think there is an issue with putting pictures of shop bought tools on here.
Hope this is what you were after; if I’ve missed anything let me know.
Overall Length -110 mm
Max leg separation - 25 mm
Outer Tube OD – 5.3 / 6.3mm
Inner Tube OD – 4.0 mm
Leg Length – 11 mm
When I made them I made the legs about 15mm then filed them down as required, I’d say the best bet is to make a few, with oversized “blanks” for the legs to be altered as required

I personally think its the opposite, if you want to make tools to open locks you need to understand the lock itself. If you really study the lock you will know all the dimensions and measurements you need as the lock provides the answers. If you dont study the lock you wont understand what is happening with the tool you have made and weather it works or not.

ok fair enough maybe that was not the right choice of words.
I understand what you are saying about the lock and making the tool
to fit.
Must remember not to post after drinking!!

Also (may be stating the obvious) but examining the key to the lock you want to open has got to be a good way to get dimensions for a pick.
