Yes its that easy but getting the exact same one may not be.

You have to put the right one in and then it will still need ajusting up to be right.

It is a lockie job to be honest.

And its not something you can just pop into B&Q and buy either. If you are lucky then you may have a manufacturers code number stamped on the face, some have no markings at all. Dimensions are critical.

Get a lockie in!

As the chaps said it is really a locksmiths job but you can do it yourself if you feel confident. I would remove the strip as you said and take it to a double glazing firm to id it for you and they should be able to order one for you costing about £100. Or try www.multipointlocks.co.uk Fitting is reverse process but it will need to be cut down in length to match the door. If you are lucky to of matched it exactly then that should be it. If however it has been upgraded you may need to adjust the stays on the frame. When this happens on some makes especially Winkhaus it can be tricky. Good Luck! Where abouts are you anyway?

Lock body strip call it what you want majority of cases its the complete strip but some makes are in three parts and you only need to replace the center section which the majority of the time is at fault. You have to ask yourself why the lock has failed in the first place as it could be that the door has dropped or wasnt installed properly originally. A good locksmith should put this right for you by toe and heeling the door to prevent the problem reoccuring in the furture. have a look at this site http://www.thewindowman.co.uk/toe_heel.htm
