trouble picking ISEO eurocylinder

Postby donjon » 3 Aug 2007 10:18

Hi, I have a double euro ISEO lock (the first one I bought) that I can pick one side everytime in seconds, but the other I can't pick at all. Out of all the normal locks I've bought (15 now! ) this is the only one I can't pick.
It's starting to get frustating now, and I was wondering if any one could shed any light on why I'm having trouble.
I have attached a link to a picture of the key incase it might help.
Kind regards and many thanks.

Hey DonJon

Although the 2 sides have the same pinning on each side they will probably have a different binding order. You will often find one side is much harder than the other. I have one lock I can open easily on one side but am yet to open the other side.

In this case it could also be that you have picked the side you know so many times that you have now basically memorized the binding order even if you don't think you have. Best bed is to NOT pick the side you find easy now for a few days and just concentrate on the other side. then if you find the old side easier this is the case. It sounds like a step backwards forcing you self to make a lock harder but its the difference between picking locks in general and being able to open the locks you own quickly.

Personally im always doing this without realizing. I used to mark locks as i picked them but People wont want to trade locks you have scratched up. Just concentrate on the other locks you haven't picked yet or the ones you still have trouble with.

All the best

John

Do you mean the plug wont turn at all or its false setting?

Inside there is a plunger that is moved from one side to the other with the key, this engages the cam,

Push the key into the side you can not pick and operate the lock,

Now try picking it,

Maybe that one side is for internal use and has not got security features included (like spool drivers). Otherwise, it's probably just machining differences in the plug and pin chambers. No two locks are the same, even if they have the same pinning.

After all of the above try a squirt of lubricant! If the lock isn't brand new out of the box, one side might have been exposed to the elements and a little bit of corrosion has set in.

ISEO seem to have spools as standard

I managed to pick the lock for the first time today! I took JackNco advice and left it alone for a couple of days, picked it up and picked it first time.
Thank you for all the advice
Regards
