Homebrew Broken Key Extrator

Postby Harpo_the_bad » 29 Feb 2008 9:33

As some of you will be aware: I have a padlock http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?t=30695 with a half a key in it.

I'm going to try and get the key out tonight using the ideas from the thread above but I was thinking it'd be fun to try and make my own broken key extractor.

I'm sure I read somewhere that an extractor can be made from an old hacksaw blade with half of the teeth filed off... I'm not sure if I'm remembering right though. Or maybe you've found a better design?

Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks much!

I think a hacksaw blade would be a bit to large. A coping saw blade (the smallest you can find) works pretty well.

I filed the back half of a half diamond off, it works pretty well.

in a pinch...the hook pick works. What I do is take a flat piece of metal to push all the pins up (handle on a tension wrench), then take a hook pick or broken key extractor and pull the key out with that.

I'm too scared I'll bend my pick if I use it for extractions. Thats what I got my Peterson set for.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture
