problems with UK Mortice Locks

Postby evilduck » 2 Sep 2003 6:57

Can you give me some in depth help and techniques on opening these types of mortice locks (see picture below). They are as common as dirt over here in the UK. I feel I lack any real skill or understanding of the lock. Any help at all would be greatly apreciated.

That's a cheapo looking sashlock.

Fairly easy to pick - I was taught to use wires, but it's much faster to use a two-in-one pick.

You can use overlifting picks, but I couldn't get them to work when I trained.

jason: the top part is a sashlock, but the bottom section is a level deadlock. This part is what causes most people problems.

chances are that lock is a 2 or 3 lever pretty easy to pick with a 2 in 1 pick and a bit of knowlage of how those type of lock works if your going to get a 2 in 1 pick they come in left and right handed (for left and right side locks) but i think you can get a universal pick but i have never used one of them :)
