5 lever lock picks

Postby grmoule » 7 Aug 2008 14:20

Hi

ive got a question about which tool buy to get into 5 lever locks mainly Chubb and ERA, ive got a ICL curtain pick can i use this or am i better off getting a pin and cam pick for that lock? Just wanted to know if it was worth me spending hours practising with ICL or not. Thanks.

Pin and cam is faster and more foolproof, but will require you to drop more cash on specific tools to open each model of lock.

Whether it's worth it depends how often you need to pick any given deadlock.

era are very easy to pick (not fortress - more tricky). practice with your CP. for chubb, P and C everytime.

Safe Ventures is a good place to get them, you just have to be in the trade probably to get the tools from there.

Info on Curtained lever locks

Postby Amanita-Virosa » 22 Aug 2008 5:48

Hi, I been away from the site for a little while (final year at uni) but now I've come back I can't seem to find any of the topics relating to curtained lever locks. Even the link on the tutorials page to pinky's guide to using curtain picks points to an unknown page.

There used to be a wealth of info about these locks here but I only get 13 matches for the word curtain in the search feature! Am I going crazy or has this info been removed (either completly or to the advanced forums) as it is deemed to sensitive?

Thanks.

martin at safe ventures is the best bet but if your gonna buy the picks
off him it's well worth paying for a few days with him to show you how to work them properly.

they do work extremely well but can be frustrating at first but practice
time will pay dividends in the long run..

Search may not be what it used to be, but the way to work around that is to find someone who is expert in the lever tumbler locks and follow that persons posts,

look through the stickies and find stuff on lever locks, then reading this, figure out whos an expert by the quality and number of that persons posts, then follow that persons 'profile' link to postings.

dont rule out the staddon/turner chubb 114 tool, very fast and available from all wholesalers, on par with the safeventures tool, quicker at opening but the safeventures tool allows you to cut a key from the pick, the other does not.
