Lubrication of Lever mechanisms

What is the correct lubricant for use on mortice (lever) locks?

Personally, I've never needed to lubricate any, except for the spring latches in a couple of sash locks.

So, is it regular oil, Silicon, Teflon, PTFE based, specialised lube, even graphite?

Generally speaking, do the mechanisms even need lubricating?

alot comes down to personal preference, i use a little graphite or a little silicone.

Just a bit of WD40 or machine Grease should keep Your locks going for a while.

WD40: 3-5 Years

Grease: 15+ Years

Depends How often You use them.!

WD-40?!?!?!?

I mean sure WD-40 lubricates but 3-5 years? more like 3-5 minutes and then you have a tacky lock interior that is a magnet for just about everything that you do not want in your locks.

A good silicone or teflon spray or even graphite.

This is just my opinion though, but I have been using lubricant for just about everything for years. and wd-40 is terrible for metal on metal lubrication because of the amount of gunk it attracts.
