Brand new Yale 6 pin "high security". DONE

Went to the locksmiths today looking for a new challenge. Really funny how cagey the guy became after a few questions, he tried selling me a mul-T"?" dimple lock but I just wanted a really decent pin tumbler.

Seemed reasonable enough though so I spent £17.50(!!!) on a new 6 pin yale cylinder:

Got it back, cracked open a beer ready for a challenge.

The thing only opened after roughly 2 minutes :( Got a false set, turned it back a bit and felt around. pop.

Im going to take it back to the guy now and see if he'll do a deal on something decent. I'll hang on to this lock though because it's nice and new but still.. wanted something more interesting.

Another one for the collection I suppose :)

Just realised it may have looked like I was blowing my own trumpet a bit above. I suppose I was on a bit of a high after cracking my first 6 pin ;)

It is a decent lock, and from what I can tell has at least 3 security pins in, one may even be a serrated towards the back, also they felt more like mushrooms than spools but I'll only tell for sure if i take it apart which I'm not willing to do yet.

It required super light tension and, no doubt because it was brand new that helped a little because the action is smooth as silk. Nice low tolerance as well, unpicked the plug hardly moves in the barrel at all.

Used a half diamond to SPP and a straight (non twist flex) wrench at the bottom of the key way to pick clockwise.

Happy daze.

Nice work, Olson! I have an older 5 pin Yale with security pins that I picked for the first time last week - I need to take it apart too to see what it in it. Those Yale keyways can be a pain!

aww cheers buddy :)

Yeh those keyways are pretty tight; they're more or less standard in the UK.

It has been a day of mixed emotions. When it popped first of all I was like "yes take that yale!" then it was.. "crap i just spent nearly £20"

I'm not disappointed, its another party trick or something. Veeery nice lock.

Thanks for the encouragement.

All the best.
