Vachette Radial NT+ : Breakdown and cutaway

Postby FrenchKey » 23 Jan 2013 10:32

Hello,

Today, I propose to look inside one of the best know Euro Cylinder in France, and also renowned in the world : the Vachette Radial NT+

Here is the cylinder and its key :

This cylinder is the highest security level of Vachette products line, with a dimple key, provided with a moveable sliding element, giving itself a patent protection (patent n° EP0983411), making black market duplicates hard to make.

It as antidrill pins :

A nicely drilled plug :

And nicely made pins :

We can see below, thanks to a cutaway I made, the way the pins act in relationship with the moveable sliding element of the key.
1/ No key inserted, the plug cannot rotate
2/ The key with the moveable sliding element in the right configuration is inserted, every pin is at shearline
3/ The plug can rotate
4/ A key with the moveable sliding element in the wrong configuration is inserted, the pins are not at the shearline, the plug cannot rotate

And Voilà ;-)

If you liked that, you might like to see the whole article I wrote, with high resolution pictures and more explanations : http://frenchkey.fr/informations-genera ... radial-nt/

Have Fun, Frenchkey

A beautiful piece of work, Frenchkey.

Huge thanks for posting this. As always when I read through something like this, there's a growing thought that's automatically checking working out numbers for some available cash to get one  Very tempting.

That patented slidable, and those totally ugly pins are a real work of art

Have you picked it, yet?

From your article and pictures I understand that the moving element set its pin by going out on the side of the key. Looks like its pushed out by the pin on top of it, so both pins are set by the moving element. Very interesting, thanks for sharing.

Cheers :)
