clear covers for uk mortice locks

never been a fan having learnt blind, but was forced to make a cheap and cheerful one the other day. used a cd case, very brittle plastic, tread carefully with the drilling.

it did the job, i thought it was the lever arrangement causing problems on a 3g114e, but it turned out that the tip of my cb e series pick was a bit bent. don't think i'd of ever got it true without a clear cover for a 114 and 114e, what a great bit of kit for tool making. time to make an era profit cover then an overlifter i think.

If you can find some thin clear plexiglass it works much better. Use the lock cover as a template and cut the plexi. Drill mouting holes and hole for the curtain then shape keyway. Sand the edges and then use a small torch to make the edges clear again. Costs a few $$ and is much more durable and pliable than the cd case plastic. You can also use a screen protector sheets for cell phones, etc on the inside to prevent scratching the plexi with your wire.

I've done the cd case thing too and they eventually crack just from the curtain being tensioned and the lever pack wanting to press against it during picking. Also had trouble with the lever pack climbing a bit and pressing the plexi over the curtian which was a pita. It does work in a pinch though.
