Yale in England

Postby cledry » 28 Jan 2023 10:10

I have a question for UK locksmiths. My flat in the UK changed the lock on the common area key. It is on a Yale blank that is also common here in the US where I am a locksmith. I have a photo of the new key, so want to try and decode it and originate a key before I fly back to the UK. I can of course pick one up at the managment office when I return but it is in a different town and will be complicated, at least on the first day back.

So my question is what are the depths and spaces used on the standard Yale rim lock cylinder that uses a JMA 1a key? If I could get the mm dimensions for spacing and depth I can easily sight read the key and originate one.

I shall answer my own question. I used a photo of the key from the landlord and sight read it. Cut a key using standard large pin Yale depths from HPC code card. The key I produced worked as well as the original. I did widen the first cut slightly as to my eye it looked slightly further away from the shoulder.
