abloy classic, the D keyway, has been around for 100 years mostly in scandinavia. there are a number of more modern varients, even the railroads use the type for outdoor switch locks, but theirs only have 3 discs, i have never had one to try out, so its hard to say, but for the old abloy classic, the cam lock for desk drawers has only 7 discs, and should be pretty cheap for a practice lock. You could probably make a tensioner out of a 16penny nail, and grind off enough of the shaft to slip in a wire to feel out the discs. There are no springs in this lock, so feeling it out is different. I have also made tensioners out of some umbrella struts, (there are a lot of varients of these) but I never did enough practice to pick the lock, (Yet) there are also some very high tech looking tools for picking it, and most of the members of the german and dutch clubs have used one. one thing the tool has is a graduated scale to show the position of the pick in the lock, for my homemade tools, I used a key to reference that, attached to the parts that come out of the keyway.
