[help]5 lever picking

Postby unlockthelock » 12 Oct 2005 13:05

hi all,
am new to all this. however i had success with a 4 lever safe embedded lock. but am now facing a frustating problem with a 5 lever embedded almirah lock.
problem is that theres no sequence of lifting the levers(that i came to know when i took i look of its inside working after removing its cover). first the 2nd one from the front then the back most then the front...i mean its very difficult and thats why in this hassel one or the 2 levers fall back to their locking positions...also some of them r not staying in their sockets and fall back.
note: its not a curtain lock nor does it have false notches.

also should any sequence be followed in picking lever locks..ie. only from front to back or back to front?

Thanks

Unlockthelock,
I don’t have any experience with an almirah lock in particular, but from by experience with other lever locks, here’s my advise.

- Its important to realise that if you have been used to picking pin tumblers that the amount of torque required on lever locks is far more. (Probably obvious)
- There is no set order in which the levers should be lifted. They should be dealt with by lifting the one that gives most resistance.
- If you are using improvised tools, ensure that the thickness and shape of the lifter is suited to the levers in the lock and the turner is strong enough to apply the required force without giving.
- As everyone always says practice is what’s required

A couple of other thoughts,
- if the levers don’t have any false notches have you tried overlifting them?
- I found that using 2-wires I struggled to get good feed back but with a home made 2-1 locks which I were struggling with earlier were far easier.

I may be telling you what you already know but i hope I’ve helped

The only 5 lever safe lock I have is made by ERA, and is made by laminated plates.

Overlifting pops it open straight away... no anti-picks. :?
