I haven't seen anything about it here in my city. Anyone in Fresno?

I just joined the site and I'm from Fresno. I know this is a old post but hopefully something has happened in the Fresno area since you posted this.

What do you mean by saying "Hopefully something has happened in the Fresno area"?

What the other user was trying to say was "I hope there is some sort of group started in Fresno by now."

I've been interested in the hobby for some time. I am new to the site.

Do we have a group in Fresno?

I would also be interested in a Fresno meetup of some sort.

No nothing has happened yet. Who wants to start up a group? Maybe we can call it the Fresno Security Team? (FST), or LockpickersOfFresnoTeam? LOFT?

From my prior experience in running TOOOL Boston for a few years, the best thing to do is get with your local hacker maker space and do an open to their members intro to lockpicking class where they let you use their space and established advertising methods (twitter, facebook, google groups) to get people in the door and interested. Here's a place I just found with a quick google search: https://www.facebook.com/FresnoIdeaworks?fref=nf

I've noticed that when folks just say hey anyone in Ohio, and then someone replies here in 6 months saying, yeah I'm in Ohio, then meetings never seem to actually happen. It just goes back and fourth like that.

Even if the first meeting is just you sitting alone, you still get to play with locks and someone may walk in and want to learn or pick with you, or they might not, but it's all good because at least you got the word out that there is an actual meeting and not just talk of one. We had ours meetings once a month on a Sunday always in the same time slot, and having that consistency was important so people could trust that if they took their time to show up, someone was actually there.

Another place to meet people who are open to lockpicking is your local 2600 Magazine or Defcon meetups. Both maker and hacker scenes find hobby lockpicking appealing.

good luck with your meeting,

I was going to mention ideaworks, fun place nice people. I'm sure they would be happy to accommodate. And I agree defcon is/was great including lockpick village. That's where I picked my first lock!

Ideaworks has a membership which is worth the small fee and is very reasonably priced. In the meantime any place or pub would serve to get the ball rolling.

Jumping in well passed the tail end of this thread. But I've been checking the Valley for any local groups, no dice. Any luck with you guys? Maybe I missed something. Thanks!
