FYI, it’s on the TC Maker website for Open Locksport except nobody showed up. Does anyone regularly come to these meetings?

a link is always good, I take it this is what you mean? http://www.tcmaker.org/blog/calendar/

I donno, this thread is from 2012, not sure if they just forgot to take that off their calendar or if the members of that meeting no longer visit this forum.

I guess we'll soon find out if anyone replies.

You could always take the meetings over, and bring in new blood. It wont take long to get an active meeting going, I've done this in Boston.

I went to the TC Maker gathering yesterday from 7-9pm. It’s scheduled for the first Thursday of every month. There were like 7 people there and no one really moderated it. We kind of waited for someone to show up to say welcome but they never did. I ended up bringing a bunch of schlage and kwickset cores for people to practice on and taught some new new people how it works. I was hoping for someone to bring some more experience or more challenging locks. I’m fairly new myself but didn’t have a problem answering questions and pinning up some locks with less pins for the new people. It was a blast. Is there anyone interested in trading or selling some more challenging locks? I know no one has posted in a while but the people I met yesterday sure had the interest in coming back next month.

Welcome to the forum friend!

It only takes one or two brave people like yourself to show up and make it happen. Our Boston TOOOL meetings were like this sometimes, and sometimes there were 20 people there all picking locks, talking, exchanging ideas and having a great time. May I suggest a Google calendar that sends folks reminders so they dont forget to show up, (this helped our group immensely) and by all means have them visit the forum and start chatting and exchanging lock questions and break downs and tips here. Pretty soon you will have a thriving community of locksport enthusiasts!

Thank you for taking initiative and sticking around to still have a meeting even though it felt like a rocky start.

Going again tonight! I pretty much run the meetings. Doesn’t seem like I have the same group month to month. It’s a great hang out though so if anyone is interested they should come out or reply with questions.

Poking my head back in here, been away a bit.
I'd missed the last couple of sessions due to life stuff, but I've been hosting Open Locksport at TCM since 2011. It's the first Thusday of the month from 7-9pm in the classroom. In my absence another member, Jonathan has been there a lot recently and can open things up.

We've got a handful of TCM owned tools and locks, and I keep most of my teaching locks there (for locksport village and class events) for folks to play with.

Attendance varies from just me (if no one shows up by about 7:30 I usually head home) to about a dozen folks, usually it's 4-6. We had an active LI chapter for a few years, but weren't really seeing the benefit for paying for the meetup fee.

I suppose I should list more info:

Twin Cities Maker is the oldest local makerspace, I helped found it in 09 and 10 we've grown to about over 10,000 sq ft of wood shop, metal shop, machine shop and various other things usually found around a makerspace. It's 100% volunteer member run, and host a variety of maker/hackery things along with a weekly open house for folks to tour the space wednesday evenings. The first Thursday of every month is Open Locksport. We meet in the "classroom" which is in the main doors, straight through doors until you run out of doors, and then left past the machine shop area to the red door.

3119 E 26th St. in Minneapolis, it's in the Seward neighborhood.
Bring a beverage or a snack if you want, there's a soda machine there and often a coffee maker that's not overly dubious.

Just got home from going to my first open locksports night at TC Maker. I had a great time! Chill doesn't begin to describe the experience, folks were very welcoming and we had some interesting discussions about locks and security-adjacent topics. Check it out if you haven't!

That sounds like a great time! Thank you for letting folks know that the meeting is still active.

I’ve missed the last few. I was going monthly for a while. I do snow in the winter so it’s super unpredictable. What were you working on? What’s your skill level? What kind of stuff are you interested in learning or getting better at?

I wasn't really sure what to expect from the meetup, honestly I just want to meet like-minded people who are into locks and security stuff and have interesting conversations. I consider myself to be an intermediate picker, but a somewhat advanced security practitioner. I have adopted locksmithing as a hobby and it has been 100% a cost center. I've been into it on and off for the better part of 15 years and have accumulated a lot of cool locks from around the world, so I brought some of that and beer to make friends :). Hope to see you at a future meet!
