THE LSI PIN TUMBLER TEST KIT. CHECK IT OUT!!!!!

Postby Varjeal » 13 Oct 2005 13:02

Greetings to all.

Another monumental leap in the evolution of LSI! After much deliberation and discussion with the members and everyone on LP101, we've now designed and are implementing an official Test kit.

Here's how it works:

The test kit consists of seven locks specifically prepped.
These lock cylinders have all been thoroughly disassembled (where possible), cleaned, and all pins and springs replaced with new ones. For shipping purposes in most cases only the cylinders will be provided.

Here are the rules.

1. Only hand tools are allowed. This means that if the tool has any seperately moving parts, its not allowed. ie. no pickguns, electric/tronic devices.

2. Use of keys in any manner is also not allowed.

3. Each lock is to be tested three times, with a max time limit of 7 minutes for each attempt. A "Pass" would be considered opening the lock 2 out of 3 times within the specified time limit.

4. "Practicing" on the test lock(s) is not permitted.

5. Test is to be performed under the supervision of at least two LSI members (one of which should be the Chapter president unless they are the one being tested.) Basically, this means three members must be present.

6. Time records for each attempt are to be kept (signed and witnessed) and forwarded to the Board for final approval and posting (should the one being tested so permit.) The timer to be used will be supplied by LSI. Timer starts when the tools go into the lock, and stops when it reaches max time or tester calls "open."

7. No lock is to be modified at anytime by anyone other than a board member. If a lock is found to be defective, the complete test package should be returned to the Board for inspection and/or repair.

8. Lock cylinders may be manipulated either "in hand" or mounted. If mounted, it must be done in such a way as to not damage the cylinder, and the one taking the test or the local club will be responsible for supplying such a mount. Chapters are not required to supply mounts.

9. Each level must be completed in order.

10. Any member is allowed only 3 "rounds" for each lock at a given meeting.

Here are the levels:

Level 1: 4 pin filing cabinet lock.

Level 2: Master 4 pin cylinder.

Level 3: Weiser/Kwikset 5 pin K.I.K. (key in knob cylinder) (prepinned MACS of 5)

Level 4: Schlage "C" K.I.K. (5 pin) (prepinned MACS of 5)

Level 5: Sargent "LA" K.I.K. (6 pin) (prepinned MACS of 5)

Level 6: Schlage Everest (6 pin w/2 security stacks) (prepinned MACS of 5)

Level 7: Mystery Lock ..... (prepinned MACS of 5) (In a seperate small box tamper-taped to prevent previewing.)

As many will note, this does not cover lever locks. Once a UK LSI group has been firmly established we will further discuss and look into incorporating it into our system. (to be determined in the future)

In regards to wafer, rotating disc and dimple locks, these will be added later as well in a seperate system as finances, tools, and skills allow.

Question -- is that the standard MACS for those locks?

Nope. That's why it was specified. It's actually lower/better. 8)

I am not a locksmith, so I could be mistaken.

No, 5 is the correct MACS for Kwikset, and there are 7 depths.

Just an update.

The locks are prepared, and their first appearance will be at the Edmonton/LSI meeting tomorrow afternoon. Be there.

Next stop: Winnipeg LSI meeting next week.

just back from the meeting today, good times!

For the record, i'm the only one so far to pick the lvl 3 test lock... yea thats right baby, i'm awesome! 1 minute 55 seconds, single pin picking... none of that crazy raking.

I brought a multilock cylinder as well, and we dismantled it down and only filled 1 chamber with both it's inside and outside pin and we picked it with raimundo's multilock picks. Slight modifications will be needed eventually, but it is definately a shining ray of hope, MULTILOCK CAN BE PICKED! gonna take forever though.

Hopefully next time i'll run an impressioning class, keying high secuirty locks(multilock, scorpion cx-5) and possibly and automotive keying/lock removal & instalation class. Just need to plan that out.

Look out winnepeg, those 7 locks are all pretty evil, although varjeal
REFUSES to even let me LOOK at lock 7... *shakes fist*

Back on topic, I saw the level 7 lock yesterday....

But Varjeal was cruel enough to have it in a plastic bag, and displayed on his webcam, I could barely even make out that it was some type of cylindrical shape

So if someone gets up to level 7, do they have to sign some kind of agreement/waiver saying that they can't tell anyone else?
