To give everyone an idea of how far away things are, my Ames-Chicago drive usually lasts about 5.5 hours given good weather and light/moderate traffic.

Another thing:
We need to make sure whatever jurisdiction we have this event at is lockpick-friendly.
Just in case.

As long as you can get release forms signed for anyone you want to film and show, I don't think you'd run into any problems.

What is the law in IL regarding this?
In IA it is only illegal if they find them on you and they can prove INTENT to do bad things.

Mmm'kay. That's bad for us who don't have official documents certifying us as locksmiths.
Although I don't think we'd run into troubles on private property, I don't want to put people in the position of being at risk. If someone gets pulled over for something silly or speeding, and somehow the picks are found, they'd be screwed.
Transport would be a problem, unless everyone mails their stuff to the destination.
C'mon people, if you're interested, post your city!

wouldnt this be like filming a reunion? If we selll I would put all proceeds towards a t-shirt deal. I know things are pretty straight and narrow down in Iowa - thats what makes America great!- but I will drive soz not to give probable cause.

According to the law thread:
- Code: Select all
Sec. 19-2. Possession of burglary tools. (720 ILCS 5/19-2) (a) A person commits the offense of possession of burglary tools when he possesses any key, tool, instrument, device, or any explosive, suitable for use in breaking into a building, housetrailer, watercraft, aircraft, motor vehicle as defined in The Illinois Vehicle Code, railroad car, or any depository designed for the safekeeping of property, or any part thereof, with intent to enter any such place and with intent to commit therein a felony or theft.
(b) Sentence. Possession of burglary tools in violation of this Section is a Class 4 felony. (Source: P. A. 78-255.)
I see the words intent in there a few times. How is this automatically a felony?

You can always refuse a search. Or you could just be like the guy who said "sure, you can search my car", he also had 100lbs of weed in the trunk! u

St. louis, MO...
Though on IL side of river, and yes having picks isnt illegal, only with *intent* like most states....where did you hear they were illegal in IL? I remember one of the first things I did before picking was check the laws for IL....
If it matters, I don't think I'd drive as far as chicago unless there are at least about 15-20 people that can go... just wanted to let you know if that factors in bringing it more south.....
