You can consider refusing a search if they ASK permission to do so; if they just go ahead and DO it I wouldn't make a habit of trying to fend them off unless you're familiar with the law, and even then I'd probably just wait and then sue them later. Don't be a smartass; it doesn't end well.

You can always refuse a search. Or you could just be like the guy who said "sure, you can search my car", he also had 100lbs of weed in the trunk! u
Lets say that by some twisted turn of fate, your vehicle matches the description of one used in a bank robbery or a recent murder. Then they may have probable cause to search, etc.
In reality, it is unlikely that anything bad would happen. Even so, I would feel REALLY bad if we decided to hold the meeting in a no-no place and someone got busted.

One option that hasn't been brought up is carpooling, sharing on gas and taking turns driving. For example N2oah, Buggs41,and I live within 2hrs of each other. I live in wisconsin rapids, WI. That way someone like db could drive down this far and then ride with someone else and not get feeling wiped out. Just my 5cents(inflation adjusted)

I am sure I read somewhere in the laws a long time back that IL, and DC were two places where posession was illegal period. I stand corrected now .

You know, what's funny is that I didn't notice that he mentioned his city UNTIL n2oah quoted it, at which point I thought to myself: "Cool, he posted where he lives! Oh wait...[scroll-scroll-scroll]...oh no...crap."

How much room would a person need to do this. I'm probably too far north for some. I have a 13' x 13' room and a 13' x 15' room upstairs. I also have dremel, grinder, vise, magnifying lamp and other tools that could be used. My main problem would be making sure I could get the day off. Otherwise, if another location would be more suitable I could take 2 or 3 in my blazer, if I can get day off.

this MapPoint software! If I zoom out too far in certain areas it just won't show certain cities! Argh!

Well, I personally would enjoy an outdoor atmosphere more than an indoor one, although either would work provided there was enough room. 13' x 13' seems like it might be a little on the small size if we get enough people.
Also, I'm not quite sure we will NEED any major power tools. I think the gathering would be more of a discussion and sharing event than a toolmaking session.
Any other input on this subject?

Good luck trying to get Winnipeg on that map. You could just put an arrow pointing up with a note that says "db is up there knee deep in snow"... or something like that.
It all sounds like fun, but the farther south the location goes the less likely it is I would attend. There seems to be a lot more folk farther south than I'm inclined to drive, so I expect I would bow out of the event. I only piped in because Minneapolis is somewhat on the fringe of how far I could see making it. That's already pushing it, as it's a 7 1/2 hour drive each way for me. Due to the nature of my work, spring, summer, and fall are difficult times for me to get away for an extended time. Taking a weekend off is manageable, but that's about the extent of it, otherwise the lost income starts to hurt quite a bit. You gotta make hay when it's there.
Anyway... I'll keep my eyes on this thread and see what comes of it.
Cheers!

Heh, Winnipeg IS on the map! Besides, if we use the carpool idea you could drive to MN and then carpool w/someone else the rest of the way!
Something else that we have to take into account is sleeping arrangements. I know *I* wouldn't be willing to drive 5 hours, do stuff, and drive 5 hours back w/out getting some sleep.
Anyway, we're still going to push forward with this idea and see what we can work out.
