I was wondering if anyone knew of any Toool, Locksport or other Lockpicking clubs in Utah? Or if anyone in utah wanted to try and have a Locksport night? I emailed Toool.us and had no reply. Thanks for the help.

For anyone lurking or just reading this i got a email back from Toool and currently there is no Toool group in Utah, the recomendation they gave me was to get in contact with any Defcon groups and see if they have anything going. If we get enought people together that want to meet and practice and learn together then we could start a chapter. If anyone in Utah wants to meet and share go ahead and pm me and we will try to get some people together.

I realize this is a pretty big thread necro, but I hesistate to make a new Utah thread, since there doesn't appear to be many people here. Anybody new out there? I'm in Tooele, UT personally. I e-mailed Toool, and am still waiting to hear back

A few years ago I tried to get a group together and hold a few meetings in the Salt Lake area but I found if I didn't bring all the locks and picks, and spend an unreasonable amount of time calling and motivating people to come, it didn't happen. The first couple of times, I think the only people there were local friends of mine who I talked into coming. There were around a half dozen people from lp101 who sent me PMs and said they were going to attend, but if if I remember right, I think only one person from lp101 came one time.

Later when grifter got involved, we combined them with his 2600 meetings and started having a pretty good turnout. We had a handful of busy meetings, gave out a lot of locks and picks, and I ordered a bunch of pick sets which I sold to people at dealer cost to try to get them into it more. But those meetings died off before very long as well.

Grifter told me he ran into the same problems that I did. If he didn't spend hours during the week leading up to each meeting, making phone calls, sending emails, texts, and pimping the meetings in IRC, his combined 2600/DC801/lockpicking meetings didn't happen either.

I think there is around dozen people on lp101 who list their location as being in northern Utah, but I'm not sure many are very active on the forum. I'm in the Salt Lake area, I'd try to come to a meeting depending on the time and location. I just don't have the time and energy these days to set it up.

Truthfully, the frequency of meetings was a concern of mine anyway. I assume meetings would be most convenient to hold in Salt Lake somewhere, and I live in Tooele. If it was once a month or so (and especially if it was weekends), I think it would be awesome. I figure that others with full time jobs probably feel the same way.

I only have a few locks, and one set of picks right now, but I wouldn't mind sharing of course.

I am waiting to hear back from Toool to see if they have any other leads. We'll see what they say and go from there I suppose. I'll speak with a few people I know in my area and see if I can drum up any interest. No promises yet though, small town...

If you do set something up. PM me and I will see if I can make it. No guarantees though, sometimes life in and of itself is busy. Plus someone keeps borrowing my car so he can get to work, but that should only be a temporary problem...

If I made it, I'm sure I could bring a couple locks that couldn't reasonably be picked (I'm mean that way ).

Realistically though. MBI nailed the problem. Plain and simply there just isn't enough people seriously interested around here. However, I wouldn't mind being be proven wrong.

For a short while there while we were doing combined locksport/2600 meetings, we were getting between 10 and 20 people each time. I think this was back around 2007 & 2008. Grifter and I brought enough locks and picks for most of the people. We met at the food court at the old ZCMI mall in the evening, I think it was on the first friday of every month. A lot of the people grabbed food and for the next couple of hours we all just sat around eating, chatting and picking locks.

Attendance started to wane, then I got busy and couldn't go for a couple months. Grifter told me how much time he was having to spend getting people to show up and I think he just got busy with work as well. As far as I know the meetings died out at that point.

It was fun, but I think doing it once a month was about the limit for most people's schedules. It sounds like there are at least three of us interested at this point.

Yeah, so far no luck (as you both suggested would be the case). I have only found one other person. My brother noticed I had picks and asked if could borrow some equipment to play with. He seems very interested in picking. I am still checking with people though.

I guess a good question may be how many people you guys think we would want before any sort of meetup would be a worthwhile endeavor?

Hi everyone!

I live in West Valley and just recently found this website and I am quite intrigued! I would love to meet once a month!! My Dad's cousin is a locksmith and he came over one day when he discovered I was into lockpicking. I was having a hard time, but after watching someone else pick the lock my skills quickly grew. Now I can pick basically all the locks in my house! :)

I know how these sort of things go, it is really hard to keep them going. I tried starting some spelling and science programs in high school and despite my greatest effort, I could not ever get them to take off. The fencing team at my high school that I did for 3 years died out after I left too...Anyhow, without my life story, I wanted to just say I would be interested.

As I have found, you just need to find a couple very interested people and just be content with that. I would love to have a couple people over at my house once a month to pick locks and I could probably fire up the grill (or meet at a central location, either is fine).

Well, let me know if anyone else is interested, it sounds really fun to me!

I'm up for it. There are three or four of us from the forum in the Salt Lake area, maybe we can figure out a time that works for everyone.

My schedule is pretty flexible. Farmerfreak said he could do most Saturdays, or else other evenings after seven.

How about in the evening on Friday Aug 12 or Sat Aug 13? Crypto, since you offered to host, we need to try to work around what fits into your schedule.

Is there anyone else in the area who can make it?

Either of those days would work for me. Just let me know which one you think will work better and I will mark it down on the calendar so I don't make other plans! :)
