I've full, protected, no claims on my car insurance. I could have transfered this over to the commercial insurance - and so lowering the premiums. If I did this though, the premiums on the car insurance would have rocketed. It worked out cheaper to leave the car insurance alone, and take the hit on the van.

The insurance being higher on the van is not a problem (yes you still have to find the money to pay it) but as long as the van is purely a business vehicle the whole cost can go through your books.
