Hello all, Im 22 and attending my last year of school at USC in Southern California.
I picked open my first lock today and i was truly surprised that i actually opened a lock with out a key. The lock was a Abus N-55/30 3 pin tumbler padlock. Yes i know this is simple but you must understand i never even considered the hobby/possible business of picking locks untill last night when i stumbled on this stie by fate. I was able to file a little barbecue scewer into a tension tool and use a flat bobypin for a pick. Once i had the tools made it took me about 5 min to pick it open. Cant wait to get a real set and get some more practice.

Just a note to introduce myself. I have benn a locksmith for over 25 years and found this site while researching bump keys, (after seeing the famous video.). I have never considered lock picking a sport until reading many of the entries here. This site has renewed the excitement I had for making picks when I began this trade. THANKS GUYS!!!!!

I was introduced to locks 25 years ago I worked part time (nights) for a locksmith as lockout specialist (now-a-days would be Pop-a-Lock) because the locksmith was getting up in age and didn't want to work nights. I was rummaging through some old boxes and found all my old picks and toos and thought I would see what has been happening lately. PL

Hi all. Just found this site today. I am a fairly new locksmith just in the process of setting up my business. I am looking forward to meeting other locksmiths and exchanging info.

Hello all, Just wanted to find out how I can open a combination lock someone gave me. It was opened when I received it, however, I thought I figured out how to reset it. When I closed it I was wrong!!!!!!!!
Now I need to know how to open the lock and reset it.

Hello - Two birds with one rock

Hello all. This is a great forum and probably one of the reasons I still have my Internet connection :) Any other Texas folks out there? Map says I'm the only one! Been playing with and collecting mechanical locks since I was Saturday Morning Cartoon age... Tavette, sounds like you have one of those Master or Sesamee 4-wheel "set your own combination" type locks.

Try this thread:

hello, i've been visiting the site for some months now, finaly got round to registering. I am a carpenter by trade, (some 23 years now, the last 11 self employed). I have always had an interest in locks (whipin 'em appart an' seing how they work) which helps obviously when you have to fit them. I've done the mandatory time on the local authority where I learned (probably to the dismay of most of you) how to gain entry by drilling locks (believe me it was much better than the old way which involved a crowbar and hammer) towards the end of my time there we did start experimenting with trying to pick the mortices and filing down and adapting the keys. We weren't very good but we did do our bit to improve the immage of council workers  (I know some of you guys on there are L A and know wot I mean). Since being self employed had lost any thoughts about lockpicking until about a year ago. So I started reading up on it and about 4 months ago I found this site and have been reading as much as I can. So far I have not got any picks but that is about to change.

Although I've been interested in the idea of lock picking for several years, I've just bought my first set of picks today (actually, they arrived from SouthOrd today). My great uncle is a retired locksmith and has some very interesting stories to tell.

My brother has been lock picking for a while, and I've played with a few of his picks and easy locks. I've opened a few, but it was undoubtedly a combination of blind luck and raking.

This is just a hobby. I've also got a day job to keep me busy. I've been reading and reading and reading the posts her. Many thanks to everyone for their insight.

I also have a small safe with a Simplex lock. I'm now eyeing it with suspicion, since it doesn't seem to be as secure as I thought. Ah well. 8)
