Hey all,
I'm new, long time reader, second time posting. I've been picking since about March. I'm an electrical engineering undergrad interested in electronic physical security. I went to this year's HOPE where I met Marc Tobias and bought LSS+ (of course I went to the lockpicking talk). He suggested that look at locksmithing for the fundamentals. I recently got a used foley belsaw course (1984). Can't take the tests but should be good for info and learning.
Was wondering if anyone had good sources on electronic in security be it lock, alarm, or anything else? I'm waiting for a Lagard LGBasic lock to make my first reverse engineering project.
Thanks

Hi, I'm TOWCH. Not exactly my first post but I hear you're supposed to make one of these and I'm hoping it might help get me advanced access. I'm a student living in Oregon. I first got into lock picking about a year ago when a friend got a small HPC pickset and me and him learned on a kwikset cylinder. I had run into the MIT guide before online and was already familiar with the theory so I picked it up fairly quickly. I got bored and forgot about it until about 8 months later when an auto lockout inspired me to make my own pickset. I stumbled across this forum while looking for pick templates and have been reading up on the subject since. I've got a small set of about a dozen homemade, and 4 southord picks with more tension wrenches than I can count(4 of which aren't homemade). I can pick a good majority of the standard pin and tumbler's I encounter and have been getting interested in higher security locks looking for a challenge. Unfortunately all info on the subject is out of my reach in the advanced forums so I've been trying to get some posts under my belt. I'm going to get some Medeco cam locks off ebay pretty soon so I have something to play with. Maybe get a hold of a Best padlock or something but I doubt I'll be impressed. Anyway, I'm happy to contribute what I can and eager to learn.

Hi all. I found this site when I was looking for information on how to rekey the locks in my house. It was even more useful when I found the hint in one of the forums that explained how to get at the locking cylinder buried inside a key-in-handle lever latch.
Anyway, my interest in lock picking is more theoretical than practical at the moment, but I have always wondered how it was done ever since I made some lock picks as a 12 year old and successfully picked a few warded padlocks and bicycle locks that I owned.
In case anyone is interested I am a Chemical Engineer, I am a Brit, and I am living in California at the moment.

I know I typed out this introduction before, but here goes a second time around.
Jolly here, I love the wealth of knowlege found on these forums, found out about it after reading about the flaws with masterkey systems when they posted about it on slashdot, and then doing my own research.
Some of you may remember me from HOPE this year, I was the guy in the turban working security, hung out around the lockpicking table alot. Unfortunatly, I couldnt quite manage to drag myself out of bed, so I missed the lockpicking seminar.
Or more accurately, my girlfriend ("kisses") diddnt let me drag myself out of bed. In any case, I love the site, thanks to everyone who makes this such a great place to be. Ive been a lurker for a very long time, but felt it was finally time to introduce myself.
{edited by Varjeal: please see forum rules concerning email requests. Thanks.}

Thank you, its my pleasure to be here. I've lurked for quite a while, and am constantly amazed at not only the knowlege found here, but also the willingness of the "senior" members of the board to help others out.

I apologize, I diddn't realize the ban on email requests extended to asking if anyone else was at a conference, I thought it just applied to asking for help.

Hi to all. Been registered for a while but just getting the confidence on locks now. Picked a few tumbler locks and padlocks, and my patio door, but I want to try my mortice lock on my front door. Don't really know how these work yet. I'll trawl through the site and see what info I can pick up.
love the black art of lock picking.....

Hi submarine man, and thanks for posting.
If the tumbler locks you've referred to picking are pin tumbler locks, then the mortise lock on your front door should be pretty standard for you (assuming that there aren't any security pins), as this is a pin tumbler lock.
(If the lock has "MEDECO" stamped on the front, just walk away... )
