Welcome everybody,
For all thoes new to the site and lockpicking, LP101 is a great place to start.
Take a look at the new users section, first and don't be afraid to ask any questions just remember to try a search before posting.

If you're looking for locks to pick, buy some but, DO NOT PICK LOCKS YOU RELY ON
I repeat DO NOT PICK LOCKS YOU RELY ON, they can and will break, then your house/car/safe/chasity belt is vulnerable or unable to be opened (think: emergency situation).

Cheers,

Hi I'm Sean from Boston, Mass. Interested in the trade/sport and thinking about North Bennet St. School. Great site, seems like a good place for me to start, I've learned alot already.

Hey all. I'm new to picking and really have no idea what i am doing but I'm excited to learn. Mostly I want to first learn the functionality and use of each type of pick. Any suggestions on where to start?

hello everyone. beginner out of ithaca, new york; picking experience limited to rudimentary knowledge of locks and marginal success with the poke-and-jab dumb luck technique :P looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the art.

My thanks for the information, my love has much trouble locking herself out of the house, so this information is invaluable. The time and effort involved in this site boggles me, so all i can say is thank you for this valuable resource!

new to site

Postby thepick240 » 24 Nov 2006 19:03

Hey everyone, I learned to pick locks the first week I started working as a glazier in '75 the truck was full of old locks and I just started taking them apart until I figured it out. For years I made my own picks and tension tools never thinking to do it professionally. It's just something I can do and have fun doing it. My house is full of old locks and when my friends come over we pick. Years ago I learned to impression but haven't done that for awhile bumping sounds like something fun to learn and I've always wanted to be able to pick handcuffs. I'm looking forward to spending some time reading on this forum.

Greeting all.

I’m not sure how I found this site, but I’m glad that I did.

In our fifties now, my wife and I are preparing for our future semi-retirement by developing marketable skills that would fit a more nomadic lifestyle; i.e., blue-water cruising, RVing, etc. While we both currently work in the airline business, she has gone back to the university for her teaching certificate and learned basic hair cutting and I started teaching dog obedience. I was a flight instructor 30 years ago, but it’s not really a good itinerant occupation.

Given the number of padlocks, door locks, and ignition keys there are on boats and RVs, lock picking, key making, and some basic locksmithing seems to be valuable skills that I should learn. And this seems to be a valuable site to begin my education.

No worries. I''m not touching anything until I have a very good idea about what I'm doing. We're looking at about 5 years down the road. I'm more than willing to get certified.
