Hello all
I am new to the lock picking hobby. When I mean new it took me about 4 years to actually pick my first lock. I bought a cheapo $19.99 dollar auto lock kit with, and a southord jackknife with the easy picking manual about 4 years ago. I got very interested in the hobby when a lock smith unlocked my my car for $50 and it took him about 5 secinds. I was holy shit he must make a few hundred dollars an hour. I couldnt belive how fast he did it. So I started doing some research and bought some noob tools. I tried many time to open a kwikset house door lock with no success. I tried to open my car with a slim jim like the lock smith did with no success. I eventually gave up and decided that maybe I did not posses the talent to do this. Just the other day I was sitting at my desk late at night. I just happen to be surfing and found a u tube video of a guy picking a lock that looked similar to one that has been on my back pack for 2 years. I lost the key to this lock long ago and just left it there. I was motivated by the video to try and pick it since I had a basic pick like the guy was using. So for 3 days I tried picking this lock watching the video about 100 times. Finally one night the lock opened, like magic. I was almost orgasmic, I was like wow I opened it. I tried it again with the same amount of tension on the wrench and I opend it again in 4 seconds. After that I have now had a new desire to try this hobby out again. The lock is a 40mm brass fortress. I used a diamond pick becuase the otheres on the jackknife are too big. I now have a new desire to try other locks and I get much enjoyment out of just trying to open locks. I hope to learn more and someday be able to be able to unlock a car, house lock, and a tubular lock. Im starting off small on padlocks so I dont get discouraged and lose interest.

I'm new to lockpicking--only been at it about a week now. So far, my only successful picks have been an American Lock and some Smith and Wesson 100 handcuffs I had leftover from my time in Iraq. When the plug on the American finally turned...wow. I'm going to go pick up some locks that can be taken apart, as the American cannot, as far as I can tell. Great site, very professional.

Hi All
I was thinking of taking lockpicking up as a hobby, after I actually thought about what is inside a lock. I started looking at different locks, and was amazed at the mechanism of a lock and the idea of opening them without a key. So I thought this would be a good place to start, after I did a little google search. The site looks good, and seems to have alot of information on it!

For all thoes new to the site and lockpicking, LP101 is a great place to start.
Take a look at the new users section, first and don't be afraid to ask any questions just remember to try a search before posting. Cause everyone should HYSF as well as there Pick-fu.
If you're looking for locks to pick, buy some but, DO NOT PICK LOCKS YOU OR ANYONE ELSE RELY ON
I repeat DO NOT PICK LOCKS YOU OR ANYONE ELSE RELY ON, they can and will break, then your house/car/safe/chasity belt is vulnerable or unable to be opened (think: emergency situation).
Keep it legal.
Cheers,
UWSDWF

Hey, I'm only in my late teens, interested in lock picking, just because it can be a hobby and perhaps i could pursue later in life.

Cool site, Ive always been interested in locks and security since I see them as puzzles and I love all the things going on internally. Hopefully as I get more time Ill be able to play a little more with this hobby.

Greeting folks, I am interested in leaning more about locks and the skills involved. I am thinking of starting a small business in the future perhaps.
Looks like I picked a good place to start.
cheers
