I'm John. I have owned a video game store for 15 years, and just claimed bankruptcy. I have decided on locksmithing for a new carreer.
VOC Rehab will buy all the tools I need. I hope I have what it takes to be a great locksmith. Won't know till I try.

Hello to everybody from Romania,
I was looking for info about some locks for my new door. Bumped into this great forum while looking for some quality info about which are the safest possible locks (bumping, picking, pull-out, drilling).
I sell gemstones and jewelry for a living, and sometimes I keep stones at home, thus you can understand my need for extra security.
I would also like some advice from people with much more expertise, and I was wondering whether I can contact at least one of "The Elders" via PM.

"The elders" aint me. As far as the question goes, there is plenty of debates on this in the main forum, but abloy are unbumpable, other than that get some deacant door protectors and you should be as secure as the door will give.

Thanks for answering.
Considering my lack of knowledge, pretty much anybody around here is an "Elder" actually.
I've found a Romanian firm that imports IKON cylinders, more specificaly IKON W10 (of the WSW series). As far as I've read, this one is advertised as bump-proof and very drill/pull-out/pick resistant.
The reason that I ask for these opinions, is that I have this tendency to go over my head with techincal stuff, wanting the shinier, faster, redder toy. (I must confess that I was searching the internet to buy a mechatronic lock when I realised that my condo has bigger security flaws that would need fixing).
And i'd also like to ask you people (especially since I've read that there are several law-enforcement officials on this site): I live in a four floor building in an apartment on the 4th floor. How would you rate the probability of someone rappeling from the roof in order to get into my house? And what would you do in order to minimize the chances?
P.S. I apologize, if this post does not belong here. It seemed to me a decent place to start asking questions

i picked my first lock the other day, with a paperclip as a tension wrench and a sewing needle for the pick, i can pick my masterlock padlock within about 15 seconds now, For some reason its really fun to me, i cant wait till i get enough money to buy a pick set.

You would probably get better answers in one of the other forums although some of the more informed members check here they do not check in this post as often.
About your question depending on your neighborhood and the amount of money/ jewels you keep in your apartment and also how many people know you have it there and where you live is the real question. If you don't mention it often and no one but your relatives know where you live odds are no one is going to scale the side of the building or repel down to your balcony to rob your home. If you are truly worried about it you should probably invest in a large (think really hard to move) safe to lock them in.

I don't know what's up with the search page, but you can use google to search the site until it's fixed: if you add
site:lockpicking101.com
to your google query, it will search the lp101 site instead of the entire internet.

Hey, I'm new to the group and just wanted to say hello and introduce myself.
I've been practicing picking locks for about a year (off and on) and I've gotten to where I'm pretty proficient at picking run-of-the-mill 5 pin tumblers. I've always thought it best to keep a low profile on this hobby of mine so I've met zero people who share an interest in defeating locks. I've gotten to the point now where I want to learn new things and interact with like minded people, so I decided to join the group.
I look forward to learning as much as I can and sharing anything I've learned when I get the chance.
Is anyone in the group from (or live near) WV?
Jax

Hi all,
I am new (as of tonight). My name is Mike (39) and I live in the midwest (hour south east of St. Louis MO). I am married with one adopted 3yr old daughter from Thailand. I am a warehouse person for a large sporting good wholesaler. I also do leather craft which also requires making tools sometimes... I have been intersted in lockpicking for a long time.. Got into it a little several years ago, but the adoption process took most of my time for a long time! I have a funny story about picking my office door years ago for practice(of course lock inside!) and locking the door stepping out and it closing!! Had to break door frame to get it open!! We dont have alot of cash for a new hobby so I will probably try making some tools... (Unless someone is generous enough to send me some extras???) Thanks for all the info!! Mike
