As an UPDATE.... I just got my LSS book. There is no longer an authentication certificate that comes with the book. You still get the preview CD with the book but you don't have to have the authentication certificate in order to purchase the LSS+. I ended up writing Marc Tobias to find out about the certificate even though I ordered the book from the publisher direct. Mr. Tobias said that it isn't done any more. Inside the book itself, it still says that an authentication certificate comes with the book, but that is no longer true.
Thought you all might like to know about that.

That's a shame. The cert was kinda a cool touch. I guess they're just pumping out too many of these books these days.

I have a question, has anyone on here bought the Gov't version? I'm just wondering because I know I have authorization to get it, and I am wondering is it is worth it, compared to the locksmithing version...

So, does anyone have an idea where one could get LSS+ for locksmiths if one wasn't a locksmith? I don't really like the "security through obscurity" strategy with LSS, only selling the "real deal" to locksmiths or government.. Anyhow, anybody got an idea?
He was selling it at <a href="http://www.2600.com">2600</a>'s <a href="http://www.hopenumbersix.net">Hope conference</a> last weekend with the four extra locksmith video CDs for $200. Quite a deal. I got a copy. I'm not sure what his out-of-conference policy is though.

I keep seeing this book around, when I look online, through amazon, through catalogs at work-
I have pretty much ignored it- because of the price, and reference to it being a police reference-
I had assumed it was a overpriced text book that would go over the basics of security.
now seeing all of your reviews of what it actually is, and reading the reviews in the locksmith magazines- I cant wait to get it.
I figure I have to finish the locksmith book im in the middle of, take my course, and at some point after that Ill go for the locksmith version.
I swear I could spend my whole income from working at the lock shop.. just on learning more, and all the pretty toys..

Get the book first, then when you've finished the two 700 page volumes, you can worry about getting the locksmith version of LSS+.
Marc Tobias was selling the locksmith version of LSS+ to hackers at HOPE, is that what I'm hearing?? Kewl.

So if you say you're a hobbiest you can probably get him to sell you one of these, I imagine.

Yeah the HOPE special at the conference was the Locksmith version of LSS+ for $200. It was a great deal if you ask me, but most hackers are poor and didn't buy.

Apparently there were enough wealthy hackers that he sold out...

I bought the full Government version last year, it includes all versions as well as the 4 DAME (Defence Against Methods of Entry) Disks. It is an absolute massive amount of information (12Gig) about pretty much anything you could ever think of when it comes to locks and security. It costs about $600 but it is well worth every cent in my opinion. I never get sick of reading through it.
