I am a locksmith in Melbourne, Australia. Found this site through the Zeih-fix site and then the Blackbag and then the NDE mag. So had a look at the articles and thought it would be good to join. I've been a locksmith for 4 years and completed my apprenticeship. I was taught at NMIT here in Melbourne. Yeah thats about it.
Cheers,
Az
Welcome to the forums. It's a trip to read you saw NDE mag outside of the context of LP101. Glad you found your way over here, someone was just lamenting the lack of Aussies lately, so you'll be warmly welcomed

Welcome back. My guess is some of what you have to offer won't be immediately allowed in the open forums. I know a few people have been frustrated by this, but I'm betting you can see the value in our private advanced forums. I hope you'll stick it out with us, participate in the conversations in the open forums and we'll all be waiting to see what you've got when you get into advanced! That said? I'm sure you know plenty that can help the open forums as well, we're always hungry for new info.
iWhacko wrote:Hey everybody. I've always been into opening locks. they have always fascinated me. Started out with paperclips, and strips of metal for tension. I recently bought a real lockpickkit, and am eager to learn all there is to know a bout picking locks

You're going to find that picking with standard tools will be different than paperclips. You may have a bit of a weird learning curve as you get used to the new tools, but they're going to let you go a LOT further than the paperclips would have. Glad you joined us! I think you're going to like it here.
EvilPacket wrote:I first got into lockpicking after Defcon a few years back. While I knew that it was possible, seeing locks picked in front of me and picking a few myself was amazing. I quickly picked up a small Southord set but the excitement quickly wore off after a few locks were opened, I was traveling and didn't make time for it.
Now a couple years later I'm trying to revive my interest and dive deeper into the sport. I'm picking up some Slim Line picks. There introduction complete.

I got interested at a HOPE conference, picked a couple of locks and started sinking way too much money in getting more and more locks. If you keep aware of the different types of locks and different aspects of the hobby (tool builders, collectors, competitors, etc. etc.) there's enough to keep you interested indefinitely. Hope the excitement sticks this time!
ConMan89 wrote:Hey everyone,
I'm completely new to lockpicking and am currently waiting for my "slightly blemished" MPXS-14 set to arrive from southord
That's a lot of people's first set! I still have a couple of pieces from my old one, I think I got the PXS-17, though. Still use the case too, though it's started to separate a bit around one zipper, I kind of have it stuffed full of crap.

dilweed wrote:hey i just join today and im fairly new to lockpicking about a month
Welcome to the site. Tons of resources for new pickers. Some of the links are starting to get a bit dusty, so if you have trouble finding anything, well, make sure to search a bit first, but if you're stumped just ask, lots of friendly folks around here.

Joeysalvatore wrote:Hello all ,have just joined and I already don't know how I went on without you . Been in the trade 5 years and already picked up a trick or two in my first five mins of looking round the site ( I must be really bad at my job I am sure some of you are thinking and you would be right , on Monday mornings anyway )
Nah - I think we all realize the perspective between the pros and hobbiests tends to be pretty skewed. Nice thing is, on lp101 we all get to get our heads together and discover a lot of great info from either camp. Welcome to the site, glad to have you here!

Welcome! It's a really social forum and we love what we do, I'm sure you'll be very happy.
