took me only a few seconds, i was in handcuffs in a squadcar when i was 17 (im now 42) and the officer left the car for a short period so i pulled my belt off and used the lil poker thing on it to pry the lever of the handcuffs down, needless to say i was much more comfortable

My first one was too easy! I quickly got overconfident, and the same lock took me 10 times as long the next time.
I've picked it probably 50-60 times now, and the weird thing is, sometimes it's easy - sometimes hard.
It's a Master Task Force and homemade pick set.
Regards,
Matt

what were you picking it with then Addi?
most desk locks are pretty poor quality and can be opened in like a second fairly easily.

i have to improvise a bit, im made myself a pick out of a piece of metal and as a tension wrench im using a screwdriver...
Its just, i start at the front of the lock because i cant push my pick under all of the pins and i dont know how many pins are in the lock... and i never have a clue if i have the first pin up because it keeps falling down but i think thats the bottom pin thats supposed to drop...ah well....
*goes back to the desk and trys again*

read the FAQ's and definalty the MIT guide, it will teach you how to find out how many pins are in a lock etc.
try thinning your pick down a bit if you can, use a file or something, just make it straight with some sort of bit sticking up at the end, either a hook like a j shape or a 1/2 diamond like a triangle shape, this will mean you can put your pick in and lift up individual pins.

My dad brought a lock home for his filing cabinet but that one opens so easily, the other day I picked it with a tention wrench only, all it takes is to push all the pins down (at the same time even) and it opens, but I guess it is just a wafer.

First lock was a Master No. 1 with a long shank. I got it with a home made short hook from a Stanley hacksaw blade. The torque wrench was also home made from a pice of wiper blade stainless. I was close to 10 minutes and finally realized I was trying to rotate it in the wrong direction. After the proper direction of torque was applied, I got it in about 3 minutes. It was a used lock and picked from front to back. This is NOT what i was expecting. I was expecting it to pick from rear to front.
I started out with a medium hook and felt that the hook was to long so I shortended it to a short hook. Gave me a lot more room to work. I also made the width of the shank thinner out on the working end to get me more room in the lock.
I have a set of "bought" picks ordered but just could not wait to get started so I made my own. I now have built a short hook, medium hook, round top half diamond, short snake, and a long snake along with 2 double end tension tools.
Helping keep the price of oil up!

And of course this was a lock you owned and had just brought to school with you because anything else would be illegal, totally wrong, and not permitted for discussion on this forum, right?
