Hi everyone. I've dabbled with picking cheap old padlocks for a few years, and am still not very good at it, but I'm not giving up anytime soon and decided to register here :)

'lo all!
Been interested in dabbling in lockpicking as a hobby for a while, but I never got around to it. Finally ordered a basic set of picks, picked up a double-cylinder Kwikset and some padlocks, and got started. The first time everything falls into place is awfully satisfying! Looking forward to learning what I can from you folks.

Hey guys,
Been reading for a few weeks now, decided I should introduce myself. This is my first go at picking, and learning about locks in general. In the last few weeks I've gathered as much information as I could find. So far I've read the MIT guide to lock picking, Locksports primer, and now i'm about a quarter of the way through Locks, Safes and Security. Mind you, that last one is a little over my head, safes are not really in my realm of interest at this point as i'm focused on basic locks for now. It's hard enough to soak up all the information about warded locks, wafers, levers, tubular, sidebars etc. I don't really need to concern myself on what type of drill bit or rig I need to drill hard plate. Metallurgy makes my head hurt :)
I think my main focus will be geared towards locksport rather than locksmithing, I have a full time career in the military already. I like challenges and hope to one day make it into the realm of understanding high security locks. If I ever manage to get a Medeco open I will consider that a success, but for now I will stick to my Masterlocks :)
Thanks for the great site!

Hello! I'm maddanny, I'm a mechanic in a very busy car bodyshop in Leighton Buzzard. I became interested in lockpicking many years ago, mostly through work doing lockouts. I'm going to find it quite hard to contribute and progress here as most of what I know is automotive and considered advanced section stuff. I have enjoyed reading the open discussions though.

Hello all!!
I became interested in lock picking at an early age. That said, I work in the security industry and find lock picking to be very helpful in understanding physical security planning.
I look forward to continuing my knowledge as well as helping those who are new to the process.

Hello all, new to the forum, looking to get plenty of information from the community and contribute what I know where possible. Got interested in lockpicking a few years ago in highschool, but really picked it up only in the past year or so. Since then I've been getting into it more heavily. and though I don't intend on becoming a locksmith, I find locks and other such devices interesting from an engineering perspective as well as the puzzle aspect. Will be sure to post my recent tool set as soon as possible :)

Hello World, I've been interested and intrigued by locks since I was a boy. Recently I started reading about lock picking again (now that we have the internet) and got that buzz of excitement all over again.
I work in the IT field, my job (in short) is protecting data, and keeping people from accessing what they shouldn't. So perhaps my early intrigue was just a path that led me to my current career.
Outside of work I do a good bit of metalworking, soldering, brazing, welding and milling. Lock picking sounds like a natural extension of my interests and career.
I'm getting a practice set in the mail soon and am anxious to play with real tools instead of the cobbled together stuff I have.
Thanks, Taemyks
P.S. I don't mean to sound snarky, but when you enter your password in this site it's sent in plain text (http vs. https). Seemed odd for a site about locks.

Hello everyone. I wonder if I am in the right place . I am looking for information concerning maintenence on a Yale combination lock on an old safe that i aquired from my uncle. I have done a google search for info and found that it needs to be done but call a pro. I am pretty tool handy and just want to know if I can do this myself. My nightmare is not being able to open my safe because of lack of maintenance. Can you steer me in the right direction?

Ran across this site while researching a padlock I was gifted - A S&G 951. I do a little picking but it's more of a hobby, at work my number one pick is a 1/4 inch hss drill bit in a dewalt. I do general maintenance now after closing down my welding and fan shop. The padlock I'm trying to get a key for - owner broke his key off in it (took a while but I finally got the tip out) I just cut the hasp it was through. He told me to keep the lock. Google blew my mind - never would have thought a padlock could cost that much (our tax dollars at work). So now I'm hunting for someone to guide me through making a couple keys, although from what I have read the blanks are tough to get (says medeco on the cyl)
