Hello all,
I started an Auto Locksmith business because the local "locksmiths" here are charging too much and I want to help our community and save them money on the expense of their automobile.
So far I have purchased over $200 in starter tools, like pump wedges, long-reaches, torque wrench and a set of jigglers/bump keys, etc.
These jigglers are my best buddies and are the best investment; so far I have picked and opened 5 out of 7 vehicles ranging from 1998-'02 models.
I like this hobby/odd-job and I see myself gaining more and more interest in the business each day.
I am a new father and I am into Real Estate Investing/Entrepreneurship. I enjoy jobs that allow me to have maximum freedom of my time and are very lucrative. And as many of you know, Locksmithing is one of them.

Hi all,
I've had a lockpicking set from Southord for about two months now, and just today decided to start practicing with them and actually try my hand at lockpicking. Hopefully progress will be made.

Just found this site! I'm interested in Locksport and locks in general. After my Dad died we cleaned out his house and found a set of lock picks. I never knew he had an interest.
I can't wait to find like-minded folks in my area.

New here. Always interested in the sport and am finally taking up the hobby. Currently using a repinable lock and getting the feelings down..
Raked a couple of locks, but it feels like cheating and not reproducible, so focusing on SPP.
Anyway, see you all around!

Hello, I just joined the forum since I found it while looking for info on lock-picking as I have recently become interested in it (less than a week), but I already find myself able to pick most locks I get my hands on which is a bit exciting. My best so far is a SPP of a 5 pin deadlock with two spool pins. It was the cheapest deadbolt the hardware store had. *shrug*
I work in IT and this compliments it in a way since security is a big deal and lock-picking is more on the physical security side of things.
I'm glad I found this refuge of information on the subject as I never knew that there were people that competed or picked locks for fun. I've always been a fan of expanding my knowledge and locks are something we deal with every day, but never really think about. Also, they're amusing little puzzles one can solve in their idle time.

Hi Everyone,
I'm Lewis and live in Central Florida. I manage properties for long and short term rentals, the short term being vacationers going to Disney (I'm that central in FL!). I have about 35 homes and a huge bag of keys, so bought myself a rekey set and have been having fun mastering all my homes!
Joined here because I have a questions but it seems like an amazing resource so think I may stick around :)

Hello, I'm a French electronic engineer, 29 yo interested in magic and locks :-) I'm opening easy locks and educate friends to lockpick. I still only use home made tools made from old wiper blade... but I have some interesting tools that I should try... Today, I made my first shim because I was unable to open this f*** 1,25$ single dial combination lock with any other method (even the code at the back was not working =-( : <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/hnBWu4CqCBc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Have fun dicovering locks, Alex

Hey all. Stumbled across this place when searching for info about re-keying locks in my house. I've always been fascinated with locks and how they work, and since I'm not afraid to take things apart, I figured I could tackle a simple job like that. Anyway, it seems like a great bunch of folks here, so I'm looking forward to learning what I can!
Oh, and my day job is software development.
Cheers,
Dan

So, after seeing a warning on the BBC news about how my house locks were vulnerable to lock snapping, I decided to replace them with better ones. After this, I had a couple of vulnerable, but still perfectly functional, Euro profile cylinders which aren't secure enough to go in the door. What to do with them? A puzzler indeed.
The answer? Buy a set of lock picks and sign up at lockpicking101.com - seems obvious in hindsight!
So, I have a set of brand new Southord picks (the C801 set). I can pick my old (UAP) back door lock in both directions, but the old (unbranded) front door lock is being a bit of a sod. I can open a Yale padlock that I have lying around, but not a Wilko-branded one (Wilko is a store brand in the UK). Today I bought a cheap rim lock, just so I'd have another lock on which to practice. I can pick that in both directions too. (-:
So, by day I'm a network technician working in local government in the UK. In the evening, I contribute to the Pioneer Space Sim project (a free game - go try it!). I have an unfinished model railway, a modest collection of slide rules and a cat. My biggest hobby is photography.
A few years ago, the first lock I picked was my Kensington laptop lock. I had to pick it again immediately, because you can't insert a key into an unlocked one. The second lock I picked was my desk drawer at work, after which I was in some demand from colleagues to open up desk drawers that had been all but written off due to lost keys. I had no picks back then; for tension I used round-nose pliers, and for a pick I used a big paperclip.
Having the right tools has made it so much easier. I'm really enjoying myself. Especially since there's a lock here in a hobby vice on my desk that is taking more than a little persuading...
Nice to meet you all!
Brian Ronald

I have been interested in this hobby for a long time but life was always to hectic to actually do it. Well, now life has told me to pick it up and learn (That means I lost the keys to my car and need to remove the ignition cylinder without damaging it). I hope that I can use these forums to not only fix my current predicament, but also pick up a hobby I always wanted to have.
