Clear Practice Lock (Level 1) US$49.95
14 Piece Lock Picking Set made of stainless steel US$34.95
hey
i'm buying the above products from www.lockpicks.com and was wondering whether anyone had experinenced any trouble with this site.
Also, does anyone living in NSW, Australia know whether lockpicks get through customs when they are addressed to a person who is not a locksmith?

Id like to know that too, my guess is that it would be a gamble whether they choose to open your package or not.

hey thanx guys,
i really appreciate your help.
i was originally going to buy them from separate stores but was told that i would save on postage if i bought them from the same shop(smart).
i don't really want to gamble with whether they would open it or not so if anyone else had some comments, i'd really appreciate it.

As I told pickle in a PM, based on my experience Customs will almost certainly inspect it. With the two packages I've had sent so far, both were opened and inspected - the first took 6-7 weeks to arrive and the second about a week. The reason for the difference in delivery time? My guess is that they do some form of a background check before they'll send them on their way but that's purely speculation. (Though it seems a reasonable explanation)
As for lockpicks.com, they seem to be a top notch outfit. I placed an order wth them for a few bits and pieces the other day and so far Barrett (the dude I've been dealing with) has been nothing but helpful.
Good luck and don't be surprised if they don't show up inside the 'standard' delivery time.

hi pickle...
you asked me this exact same question by e-mail a couple of days ago - I replied but didn't put my response in my sent items so I can't repost it here.
basically I said that I have had no problems ordering from lockpickshop.com and my picks weren't opened by customs. I warned that bulky items like pick guns and plug spinners may attract attention but a normal small pickset should be fine.
Oh look! it's 2016!

I have had at least 6 out of 10 items sent to me that have been opened and Resealed with a sticker attached that read Opened by Australia Post for Customs Inspection. Electric and manual lock pick gun / manual lock picks /tubular picks/ amongst other items and got them all no problems not at least in Victoria.

sorry for being so paranoid, it's just that my mum is a little etchy on whether she will let me get them at all. it's $120 AUD and she'll get pissed if they are confiscated or whatever.
my uncle used to be a locksmith so would it increase the chances of the sets getting through if he ordered for me???

No, I think he'd have to be a current (bona-fide) locksmith.
I think everything should work out ok if you just order them, it just depends.

So far I don't think anyone in Victoria has had their tools confiscated by customs. While you should fare the same, you also could have one of our victoria members bring them in for you, and repost them off to your address.
If you're really paranoid that is.

what on earth are you buying with $120? if it's your first pickset - go for something a whole heap cheaper!

sorry, i double posted- whoops
also, if i did order through a person in victoria, would the package get checked again in the mail?
if customs only checks overseas mail, surely the post agency would check packages in the mail?
