Newbie Help

Postby mikenflorida » 7 Oct 2021 11:19

I am new to this so.... I have successfully opened 7 locks but I can't seem to progress. One I am working on, resets the pins after setting a couple of pins. For example, 1 will bind, then click, 2 will bind then click, 3,4,and 5 are loose, start over and 1 and 2 are binding again. Suggestions?

What kind of lock? Is it possible that it has security pins?

Even with standard pins, whatever I'm doing with tension means I can get clicks from pins when they're only nearly set, but not all the way yet. I've been trying to relearn pin states using the "jiggle test," which I've also heard called "set bounce." I think it's helped me internalize pin states and know, beyond the first click, if a pin is set, still set, or not quite set.

There's also Deviant Ollam using the Lishi tool to demonstrate set bounce (tried to link to the timestamp for it.)

It's a cheap 4 pin Made In China padlock.

There was another recent post with the same kind of issue. Melted spool pins may be the cause.
