Turnover statistic on locksmiths?

Postby sevedus » 14 Apr 2009 13:03

We recently sent a survey by mail to 100 locksmiths in the USA, two in each state. We selected only those registered ALOA who had web-advertizing and checked the adressess with Polk directories. Here's the odd thing...there were twice as many locksmith surveys returned as "undeliverable" as those delivered to the general public.
Very few of the locksmiths in this area do locksmithing exclusively. They mostly do other security work or other technical mechanical work in addition to locks.
I though it was weird to get an 18% non-delivery to one specific trade. Is the turn-over in this trade really that large, and what does that mean for people just entering the business? Anyone able to speak to this? :?

I am not personally a locksmith, but from what i've heard the rate is quite high, probably from the ads claiming that being a locksmith=$$$$
