I think most people will recommend one of the HPC key machines from the 1200 line (blitz, punch, etc).
I'm window shopping the Framon 2d code machine and have the Foley-Belsaw model 200 that came with my course. In all honesty, it will kind of depend on where you are at, how much you will want to spend, and what you've been trained to use. If you've never used a key machine before, this may be a problem.
For the LAB pinning kit, I have the .003 increment "the wedge" kit.
Good luck with your business, and post often / drop into IRC to let us know how it's progressing for you!

Yes I have experence with all types of rekeys and residental and auto unlocks. Some experence with vats keys transpnders etc. But to start off im going to do everything except making, decoding cars etc. Whats about the lowest price you will probably pay for a good code key machine?

If you want to save a little money as a start-up, you can do what I did, which was instead of spending a lot of money on a code machine, I bought sets of depth and space keys for the most common locks that I should come across in my residential rekeying. I bought sets for KW1, KW10, SC1, SC4, WK2, WR5, Y1, and M1, and only spent about $100.
As for the LAB pins, I would also recommend the .003 increment.

rytan is coming out with a new code machine this summer, i will be ordering one, the 1200 blitz is a good machine, thats one of the ones i am using now, the ITL machines seem to be the new world standard, if you have the bucks get the ITL, space and depth keys work but you will take forever on any job bigger than a couple of dead bolts, buying a bunch of precut keys off of ebay is a lot easier, the 005 lab wedge has worked out well for me, i just bought another wedge .005, also handy having a lab schlage specific kit and a weiser factory kit, a american padlock kit or master padlock kit uses same pins, the silica bravo 2 or 3 is hard to beat one of the best duplicators i have used, borkey is great but good luck finding one.

not to sound obvious, but i would order what i had used in the past. your equipment should be the least of your worries upon opening your biz. i really like the idea of the depth keys starting out- not only cheaper, but will probably make you a better technician in the long run (macs will be burned onto your hard drive) kinda why i dont like the itl machines- its like spell check for locksmiths. i still say rytan makes the best semi-auto duper; cheap, and bullet proof. i like their spinner, too.
i wanna irc. how do i find the channel? much obliged.
