Framon 1 chasis flex problem

The cutter head and vise are separate blocks mounted on the chassis and chassis is such that it flexes enough to throw cuts off tolerance depending on how it's resting on surface. Lift up on the front with the vise pushed all the way to the cutter and you can hear it cutting more because the chassis flexed.

Would I be able to get around this by mounting on a piece of plywood or does that flex enough to also cause problem?

3/4 inch plywood should be structurally sound enough not to flex... seeing as they use it for flooring before tiles are put down (and that cannot flex, or it'll crack)

you could also double it up, but have the "grain" running 90 degrees of one another. That will be the most sturdy unflexible with plywood.


Make sure its structural plywood, and not the cheap pressboard stuff.

I did exactly what unlisted had recommended I bolted a piece of 3/4 plywood to the base of the machine then bolted the base to my work bench, no problems yet and it’s accurate to .001.

You could try putting a straight edge on both axes of the base and see if it's true or warped slightly. If that’s the case bolting it to a strong base should solve your problem.
