lever handles latch sticking / not horizontal

This is the old Locksmith business info area and will be broken down to fill in the new sections below.

lever handles latch sticking / not horizontal

Postby nls777 » 3 Feb 2010 17:20

:? so I had put 8 sets of lever style handles on our house 2 months ago, two of the eight have started to tilt the handle when not being used is not horizontal it tilts to the ground a little. The whole set is twisting to make it tilt alittle but when I was instaling them I found if i tightend them to much the latch would start sticking abit. Does this mean that the latch and the levers could be off my a little and just needsto be lined up perfect to be able to tighten as much as needed so it doesnt shift?
And I come with a hat full of tricks,
Trunk full of Faygo, car full of fat chicks.

That's a common problem with levers, especially the cheap ones. Many modern lever handle locks have two small pilot holes drilled above and below the 2 1/8 lock bore hole. This is to prevent this very issue. I prefer to use an installation jig for all lock installations, especially the lever handle locks.

Check the alignment of the two holes, tighten the lock sufficiently and see what happens.

Will do its becoming a problem replainting the door...... $ there all smartkey I would have liked to see something go into the latch to stop it from twisting :(
