If you want to impress the locksmith, I would recommend bringing your pickset but don't even pull it out until you've engrossed him in conversation regarding all other aspects of locksmithing and what interests you about it.

Picking locks is not locksmithing. Hanging doors, fitting locks, rekeying locks, cutting duplicates, etc... is locksmithing. Only then, you should casually mention that you enjoy hobby lock-picking and see if this perks his interest, and he will supply you with locks to pick as a friendly side conversation unrelated to work.

TAKE (not bring) your picks to his place and as raccoon said after a chat ask him if he wants to see your picking, ask him if hes got a lock handy and pick it, if he brings one out that you know you cant do say your not that good yet but you will have a go, try for a bit and then say sorry your not that good yet but getting better, has he got somthing else,

Locksmithing Courses

Postby mrdan » 5 Aug 2006 17:30

I am about half-way through the course at P.C.D.I. and am fairly happy with it. I am 9 years into a career as an alarm tech and was wanting to augment my skillset to include locksmithing as it does relate to my feild. The shipments do include example stuff like wafer tumbler cylinder and a pin tumbler cylinder (Kwikset) and a pinning and service kit so far I will get more tools and stuff as I progress through the course. At the end, I will get a key-cutting machine as a "graduation gift" Anyways I like the course thus far and would encourage anyone to take any class they could get to advance their career/hobby. :D
