Dude, what's your fuel economy on that house-on-wheels? It's beautiful! but I'd hate to have to drive it a hundred miles.

would it be ironic if a locksmith got his van stolen?

what do you do about that? do you buy like super high quality door locks, and like unbreakable (or bullet proof or w/e) windows?

or...do you just buy insurance like krazy¿

Ironic: no, sad: yes. Some locksmiths invest a lot into their vans and can be a fatal loss to their business during the startup period or slow business times. Either way, it's unfortunately a fact of life that this happens and has happened to a locksmith sometime ago if I recall correctly. The best protection however is probably insurance as it'll probably be the easiest thing to implement compared to reinforcing doors, retrofitting locks, replacing windows, etc. Coupling insurance with a car alarm though wouldn't be a bad touch, gives you some immediate protection with a backup just in case.

I like the sprinter setup octps that your friend went with.
Seems very lock and keyish though and truly approches a counter on wheels.

How does anyone have that kind of timwe though to keep a van looking like that.

irony is using the word ironic with no sense of the meaning of irony

Very nice. Mine is outfitted for both alarm and locksmith work so it is a little messy in comparison. I have a computer chair with the back and the casters (wheels) taken off so I can swivel from the workbench to the cutter. What do you guys use for sitting or do you just kneel.

Just a thought on chairs I would leave the wheels. When I was serving in the military as a 31F (Network Systems Operator and Maintainer) our shelters had chairs with wheels. We simply used a bungy cord to hold them down durring transportation. It only takes a couple of secounds to strap it in.
The search button wants to be your friend. It is getting really lonely. Would you be its friend?

Bunch of questions, so let me know if I forget one.

Gas mileage - The Astro got around 22-25 unloaded and 13-15 loaded. The E350 got 8-15 unloaded and the same loaded. The Sprinter has gotten around 28-32 since purchased. MPG is better if you stay 55 or below, run 80 all day and it really sucks.

Fridge, he has one in the front section :P

Locks - Yes, they do get broken into and stolen. Yes it can cripple a business instantly if not prepared. We have shatterproof laminate on all of the glass and hardened deadbolts that work off a solenoid that locks into the chassis on all of our van doors http://www.cargolock.com/products.html along with an alarm system and GPS. Some use magnetic locks, some use a nice big hasp on the doors with padlocks. Some use nothing special at all. I decided years ago NOT to have any signage on our vans and all of the windows tinted so you can not tell what we are when the van is parked. I think the signs on the van can be good advertising, but can also be very inviting to a criminal. Either way, insure the vehicle for full replacement cost of vehicle, inventory and equipment.

Buildout - I can build out a van in a day. The Sprinter spent the better part of a month at a cabinet shop. The rule of buying a new van is never sell your old one until your new one has been on the road a few months :P

Seating - I've seen everything from folding chairs to milk crates to wooden stools to boat seats and 5 gallon buckets in Locksmith vans. I use creeper seats personally and most that have Sprinters use rolling office chairs (they have more headroom). This is similar to mine
