J ryan uch, if you are in a distant city and see live video of someone breaking in, call the police in your home town, sure its a long distance call, but worth the bother. if you only access the video after the fact, still call those police and see if they can secure your place without ripping off more as some police here have been known to do.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!

No, no. Ask them to send the most corrupt narcotics officer to secure your home. Catch them on your surveillance system and put another pig out of a job. :P

Oh right.. on topic discussion?

Hmm, I really have nothing to contribute.

I allways try to tell my clients who needed towing that I also do lockouts.

One client was an elderly man who had a 2006 VW. For billing reasons I need the customers birth date, asking that he looked at me like I was going to use it for crime...

After towing his car to garage I gave him a lift home also and told him that if he locks him self out of his car, I can open it in a few minutes without leaving any marks.

The look on that man's face was priceless  I bet that he didn't sleep that night...

(excuse me for my engrish...)

Assuming you did have a camera, could you use it as evidence to prove that somebody has infact tried to break into your house?

I know most attacks are brute force, but it's more along the lines of bumpkeys that I'm interested in. Since it leaves no marks that insurance companies are prepared to read via limited examination, could it be used to secure a payout on the off chance that someobdy does try to break in.

Assuming that I don't have family in the house I wouldn't be screwed if everything was insured, but on the off chance that a bump key was used and so the insurance pinned neglegance on you, you'd end up with nothing. I'd shell out for a surveilance system for the peace of mind knowing that if things go bad, I'll still pull through.

I'd give the customer everything and anything they want - If it makes them sleep happy at night then it was well worth the cash. At that age you don't want to worry about things like that - You've passed that years ago, and you're taking a well earnt rest.

Not to mention, you'd quickly find yourself short of customers if you won't do what they want you to do - It's just not worth the hassel. Working in retail has shown me that customers will pay lots for what is essentially a placebo purchase - It makes them feel good, and it's their right to buy whatever the heck they want, providing it's legal.

I may have missed the point a bit, but I wanted to throw some thought in. :)

To be professional you MUST have a professional opinion, if someone thinks they need a medeco, ask why, tell them the pro's and cons etc. I once went to a house, it had 2 double sided deadbolts on every door inside and out. On top of that it had security bars over all the windows, and security barred doors over not only the outside doors, but on the inside, this was in a bad neighborhood and surprisingly enough I found prymarks on the inside doors and signs of previous damage/forced entry on the exterrior doors... you just never know what went on in these places, and you have to give the customer some information for them to make an informed decision, just as you need information from them to give them your opinion.

When I have to deal with the elderly folks who may not be as mentally acute as they once were, I will sell a job as needed, but often times I will ask questions, educate them, and render professional opinions in just a few minutes. This gives them peace of mind and I will only charge a trip charge.
