WARNING on new bt book

Postby toomush2drink » 7 Feb 2006 7:08

Ok so i have the rep round and we do the deal based on the fact that i should be near the front due to it says in writing
"entries will appear in alphabetical order based on the registered company or trading name of the business. Positions within the directory cannot be guaranteed"

Guess whos at the front ? Reactfast then followed by all the others alphabetically. The person i complained to kept saying its to do with the registered company name so pointed out that companies house has them down as reastfast without any numbers etc as he seemed to think that was why they were at the front. Also the rep had told me numbers and dot dots etc wouldnt be allowed and showed me that part of the contract.I tried to cancel my contract but the ad came out without me seeing any artwork (which they have cocked up, changed my logo etc) but only got 25 % discount.
Beware its another yp setup with lying reps and whatever they put in writing a farce. Im off to trading standards with this as it seems they can say what they like to suit themselves but ignore their contracts when it suits them.

The only thing that should suit them is a lawsuit.

It says in the folder they put all your stuff in that they send out the proofs as part of the process, why put it in print if its not true. The rep made a big point of how they sold yp and were going to be different, yeah right !! Just from your comments shrub it apppears they tell you what they like. Lets face who pays out for an advert they havent even seen any artwork on, its crazy ? I pointed this out to the muppet i dealt with asking him if he would pay for something he hadnt seen ? he answered no so iasked why he expected me to then.

lol sounds like the exact same conversation i had with them this afternoon, i would have just stayed waiting at the letterbox for my proof if i hadnt read your post (i was told i would get one and was just waiting for it), i rang the proof department and asked, they said yes youve got until 25th of Feb to make any alterations and i said ok so ive got a proof coming in the post then havent i? they said well you have now

It really does make you wonder

Cheers mate, possable disaster avoided (as long as i do get a proof and its right of course)

On a slightly differant note, i got 5 mousemats in my folder and 1 sticker :? i wondered what was in there at first as the letter was so heavy, im sure a few stickers and one mousemat would have been better for them, the pen and postits are handy though until a customer nicks the pen and i loose the post its on the floor of the van lol

Apparently BT "are committed to 100% proof's being sent out to customer's, but can't guarantee it as we can't guarantee the postal service".

The rep should give you a date when the proof should be with you and if it isn't then you are given a number to contact. This is what happened to me last year and I had to contact them.

With regards to Toomush's problem, apparently ad's should be listed in alphabetical order and ............'s and 1st's, etc should not be allowed. Any company who's name does begin with some form of A should be asked for either a business cheque or 2 utility bill's with that name on or, if registered, a check with company's house too.

I know we've heard it all before but this came from my latest rep, who actually appears OK and doesn't appear to just tell you what you want to hear, and I am very very cynical and dubious when it comes to any kind of salesman, and he sure has noticed, as do they all.

Makes you wonder whether the rep's actually believe this crap regarding the nationals themselves...

Evo the whole thing that sold me on the idea of advertising with them was that my rep said exactly the same as your rep did, but it was all a complete load of bull..... The proofnever got sent and rf are at the front as usual. The may have sold yp but they still operate the same.

We all know most rep's are full of crap and will tell you anything to get your money, knowing the likeliehood of them still being your rep next year is quite remote so someone else will have to take all your complaining and whinging when you've found out the truth too late.

I actually believe mine though, and as I said I'm very very cynical and paranoid of them all, so it makes you wonder if the boss' at these directories make sure RF, etc are at the front when choosing the publishing order rather than the rep knowingly feeding you lies...

Well im one of 2 that will be in my local book so order isnt the issue, ive made sure my advert is bigger than the other one so it should be ok this time as long as i get my proofs.

Update,

They have refused my 10 requests to send me a proff for any of my adverts, i have rang 10 times since the first posting of this thread and ive got each time 'yes we will send it out now' ive now emailed twice to say if i dont get a proof i shall not be paying for the adverts at all if they are slightly wrong.

Ive had a call from them today 1 week before the return of proof deadline and they say my advert didnt have an address on, i said thats because i didnt want one on it as im mobile, they said they wouldnt run the adverts then, i pointed out that not all adverts had addresses on in the present phone book and that the 2 locksmith ones advertiseing in there dont have them on (nationals) they said i had to include one so i gave them one and said it is to be in the smallest print possable along the bottom of the advert.

I then asked what about the other 2 companies that have listed themselves as aaaaa.locksmiths and aaaaaa.locksmiths, she said they no longer work like that and now go on the size of the company.

I left the conversation repeating that if i didnt get a proof i would not pay for the listings and said if i get a proof but with no time to make alterations i would also hold back payment.

The other annoying thing is she rang me but didnt have a clue about any of the questions i asked her and had to go and ask the supervisor each time which took around 5 mins, i was on the phone for 42 mins !!! and she used a home telephone number which isnt the supplied contact number,

What a bunch of idiots, as long as my number is right and it says locksmith i hope i dont get a proof as then i get free listings for a year.
