Price can vary greatly from area to area, I don't know if you are bonded or not, but if you get a buisnuess license and subscribe to locksmith ledger I think they'll bond you for minimal cost. Its well worth it to get the paperwork to protect yourself from any legal consequences.
That being said it varies greatly, and the best way to do it is to call up a shop and ask. Down here in rural florida it runs 45 service call and 7.50, 8.50, 9.50+ per lock depending on the locks, if they have keys.. need new parts etc. and 2$ per key for mobile duplication.

I charge $10 per cylinder that needs to be rekeyed $12.50 w/no keys or to master. $35 for the daytime service call if its within 10 miles. I have my wife check around my area for me about evey 6 months just to make sure. She was curious and checked with a company in Vermont(family up there) and they were around the same rate. So I'm pretty sure that that's going to be close to the going rate for most places.

Yeah, our service charge is about $45 too. If the job is residential we charge $10 per lock and if its business or commercial we charge $15 and up per lock.

Do you have a license to operate as a locksmith in the state of Tennessee? Most insurance companies will not insure you without a license in a license state. This is not a job that I would do without adequate general liability insurance. If anything were to happen that could be tied to your work and you are without a license and insurance, legal defense would be a challenge at best. In this profession, a bond will typically only pay out if the bonded person is convicted of a crime in a court of law. Insurance is for all of the rest of your liability. A professional needs to be bonded and insured.

Whoops... I just noticed that this thread is over three years old. I guess there has not been a lot of activity here.

OK. Now I get it. I'm new here. I was looking at "Joined Date." Now I see the post dates. It's a shame that we can't edit posts.

Actually it is not. Well it is, if you post something stupid But the general idea of no-edit-button is to prevent people from deleting their posts when they get pissed up. Also it prevents flamewars when the original poster can't change his/her sayings. And finally, it "forces" you to think what you write and check how the text looks like, as in pushing the "preview" before "submit"
In here you can get your lock rekeyed for those prices only if you provide the new key and come to the lockie with the lock cylinder ::D Else there is a call-out charge and/or extra work included and the price jumps to 30-80 EUR.

How much does everyone else here charge for key duplication? Our shop charges $2 per regular house and padlock key and $5 for non-transponder auto keys. I ask this because a lot of our customers freak out when we tell them it's $2 for a kwikset or Schlage key.

We charge 1.40 for a regular residential single sided blank, ie kw1, sc1, wr1,2,3,4,5 etc after tax at 7% it comes out to be 1.50. For automotive double sided keys we charge what comes out to be about 2.50 after taxes, unless they are an oddball, ie we have to shim the keyblank to get it to cut correctly or if its a rare and or expensive key, then it can go to 5$ +

I charge $2 for residential or padlock keys. If someone has a problem with the price I explain that I code cut the keys, not duplicate them so they are more accurate.

You code cut all of your keys? that seems time consuming. You can get your machines into very good calibration that will make up to 5 generations with virtually no problems. Your customer must understand that you can charge a premium for having all of the keys they will need on hand and more accurate cutting than those laughable axxess+ machines they have at walmart.
