Thats a very common question... but it has a very broad answer. First of all the only states where you actually need a license are

Alabama
California
Illinois
Louisiana
New Jersey
North Carolina
Oklahoma
Tennessee
Texas
and New York City

If you are in one of those states, I'm pretty sure they have state issued licenses where you just have to fill out a bunch of paperwork.

Otherwise, if you just want to say your certified there's not really an official certification. A lot of people go by the ALOA (Associated Locksmiths of America) PRP certification though.

Well then, welcome to Lockpicking Bobbie!

What's with the "..yea me..lol" you've got some kind of low self esteem problem?

Why is it that you have such a hard time with your spelling.

You're taking a Locksmithing Course just to help your sister out, you're a good person Bobbie!

Assuming that you talking to me, oh great, you're welcome, about three years doing some amateur locksmithing, where I live we don't need and therefore can't get a license, other than that I'm just a hobby Lockpicker!

And some quick info for ya Bobbie... taking the FB course does not make you a certified locksmith. All they do is send you a certificate saying you have completed their course. To be certified you have to get a state issued licensed, cept I don't know how that works for Alabama. I'll look into it though.

Well in my opinion the course is definitely worth it... it teaches lots of good info along with the key cutting machine and the lock pick gun. Also after completing the course, they give you the chance to sign up for The National Locksmith Magazine, which is a biggie if you plan on being a locksmith. So for you its probably not a complete waste of money, it will benefit you in the long run.

You know Bobbie, I'm glad you asked that question!

It all started back in good old 2005 it was September 11 2005 to be exact, my father in law had a couple of old padlocks on his metal fence, metal fences are used quite a lot here because of the "Bandidos", that he asked me if I would like to try and open, after having an other guy try and beat it open with a hammer. So I took a piece of iron binding wire, shaped it into a key-like thing and a screwdriver as a tension wrench!

And success, so that got me thinking, can this really be done, is it really possible, well I decided to find out what was behind this whole locksystem thing!

What better place to go than the Internet to figure out stuff, not knowing anything about lockpicking terms, I googled: "Open lock without key" 8),
thinking, I probably won't get too much info cuz this just got to be one of the most top secret things in the history of mankind, well I was wrong and found the mit-guide and read through it a couple of times, I also found LP101, which is probably the best lockpicking site that exists today!

:D
