Stage/ Careere day

Postby samfishers » 26 Oct 2007 19:57

Hey, today, was my career day with a locksmith. Guess what, it was the most amazing thing i have ever lived. I pinned tons of cylinders, i shimmed some viro locks, i have installed locks, i have cut keys,(Abloy, Medeco, Abloy protec, and normal keys) I have picked some locks, like a 5 pin Russwin, a Sargent.... I have also used a pick for the first time in my life!!! I did re pinned or re disked a Abloy protec( man that thing is hard to repinn  ). We picked peoples door while they were outside, we did some impressioning. He gave me for about 2000$ of locks and pins. I inherited of a DOM, a MUL-T-LOCK, a Luma Solido(if anyones knows about it). I also talked to him about Jk picking a Medeco biaxial. He didn't believed me, so I showed to him the video of JK, and has amazed, but still didn't believed it. so that was a short part of my story, that lasted 2 day of 10 hours each.

Wow, that totally blows away my first couple days at my shop.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

Nice sounding days you got :D I just wish I were you...

I was just thinking...would it be rediscing the lock insted of repinning it when talking about Abloy :D
I inherited of a DOM, a MUL-T-LOCK, a Luma Solido(if anyones knows about it).

Pictures, the people wants pictures  Especially that Luma Solido which sounds like some Spanish lock :D

The Luma Solido is a disk brake lock for motorcycles. Looks pretty solid and carries a "Sold Secure" award. Would be interesting to see more of it

Not to toot my own horn, but show him my video of the biaxial being picked. It is high res and is even disassembled afterwords to show it was fully pinned and the sidebar was installed and unmodified.

Sounds like you had a wonderful experience with a great locksmith too. Next summer you may try to see if you can get an apprenticeship with him and learn even more. I would be sure to stay in touch with him by stopping by once in a while etc so you maintain a good working relationship with him.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!
