We have "eye candy" i.e. sellable merchandise that will catch the attention of people and sell easily. I think the shop I work at has a few of those super large 2" door peephole viewers, some architectural lock hardware, magnetic automobile key safes

hmm... some polished brass knob/lever/deadbolt sets, heavy duty padlocks...
We have a counter by the door with inexpensive novelties with things like key rings of all different sizes, key tags, under the glass we have certain "crest" auto keys, we have quite a few things that people often walk into to buy... Depending on your area... actually everywhere just remember one thing: Put the most expensive stuff the FARTHEST from the door as possible and put the cheap stuff you can afford to loose but make a huge profit on (key rings for example) very close to the entrance. It all depends, but I don't really hang out at the shop and sell stuff while talking to the owner, I come in there when people drop stuff off and they need me to work on it.
Most of the time I'm running back and fourth from call to call, and when its slow I sit in the back of the van, put my feet up on the desk and watch tv.
