If I want to be a locksmith do I have to go through courses, like some college courses, or can I go to a place and just apply. I am talking about really basic stuff, mostly like just copying keys and helping people with broken locks.

Sorry if this has been posted, but I couldn't find any in search.

depends on the state, some require certification to perform locksmith duties (like fixing / keying locks) however just making keys you don't need anything speical for, just go work at your local hardware store even:) Basically it depends what you want your job to be and where you live. Some things may be required others may just be suggested.

Being able to do automotive locksmith work with a good understanding of impressioning and transponder systems is a HUGE plus. Not to mention being able to do lockouts as well.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture
