I applied for a job, I passed an aptitude test. The manager must have thought I was fairly intelligent.

I don't think anyone is hiring here in Phoenix, and locksmiths appear to be struggling and going out of business.

I thought the locksmithing business still thrived in economic down turns.

It has gotten pretty bad here in Florida. It just started recovering which is good.

I think that's what locksmith schools and companies like Foley-Belsaw will tell you to make you sign up for their school or courses. I've seen that when the economy goes down and no one wants to spend, they will hire unlicensed individuals who are willing to do the work for them for cheap instead of calling a more experienced and professional locksmith.

Please tell us how you became a locksmith.

My father's been one since 1968 and I joined the family business 22+ years ago.

i was looking for a summer job to make some money to figure out what i wanted to do with my life, fresh out of highschool age 18, i saw an add online looking for an apprentice locksmith. Dropped off a resume, followed up a week later, had an interview later that day, then i got the job the next week and have been going strong ever since, love it so far and dont think i would be happier anywhere else...awesome boss, awesome employees and (in my eyes) the 2 best locksmiths.
