Where to purchase code books?

This is the old Locksmith business info area and will be broken down to fill in the new sections below.

Where to purchase code books?

Postby WolfSpring » 2 Jan 2011 14:37

If this needs to be in the advanced section by all means move it.

I am halfway through my FB class and in my state you don't need to be certified or licensed to be considered a lock smith. I am trying to sign up for the National Locksmith, locksmith area and it is asking me for auto codes. I know what it's asking, but I do not have code books to answer the question, where would I look to purchaseing the code books? I know the Locksmith Ledger has something called code source and states it has code books for subscribers to purchase but I am not a subscriber and not sure I want to be. I looked on lockmasters and didn't see them and I searched the forums. I'm sure it's something simple I'm overlooking.

Again if this is an advanced type question feel free to move it.

Thanks for any help on this.

You can find some affordable code books on

http://hawleylocksupply.com/Merchant2/m ... y_Code=BKU.

I am looking for a full HPC set but they are discontinued.
I have the HPC Codesource but it has problems. Would rather have a book. It won't crash.

No to sound mean..but that site and a few others are for full time professional locksmiths. If you do not have the books or code program then you are not a locksmith and should not have acess acording to them. Again nothing personal.

Get off your high horse. He's already mentioning that he's taking courses to pursue a career in locksmithing.

Do you really think he's going to purchase code books for nefarious reasons? How many filing cabinets and truck tool boxes is he going to have to break into to pay for his code books, assortment of key blanks, and code cutter? A lot more than just a pick and a tension wrench. That's sarcasm, by the way.

Anyone in this industry knows that access to The National Locksmith forums/magazine subscription requires correct key codes that are randomly generated on their website. I'm sure this is why he needs them. A very noteworthy effort considering that he is investing money to invest more money in our trade. It should be met with praise and not hostility.

So, WolfSpring, PM me and I'll get you the codes to save you some money.

Whats up wolf

Did you want the code books solely for access to NL or did you want em for when you actually start smithing? Locksmith supplier IDN Armstrong here in Atlanta had whole set of the code books(5 volumes i think) for sale for about half of retail price a few months back, they might still have them. If you wanted them just for NL then the couple hundred dollar price tag is not worth it. But if you need them for when you start work, and you will need a source for codes, then its a good deal. Personally i use Instacode, as long as a you have a reliable laptop then software is the best option in my opinion.

I want them for buisness and I have found several sights pointing me in the right directoin, realizing they are very expensive and will have to wait for now, and I was able to get into NL using other means and actually found them to not be what I was expecting as a professoinal type site, not trying to start any flame wars but they are petty and pig headed there and that place is deffinately not for me. I do thank you all for your assistance and comments.

Thank you.
